Default Prolific Tret's

Tret's Spawned again theirs two or three Gen. in the tank now and the female is guarding eggs again. I'm starting to think these fish were crossed with Multies some where along the line LOL. If I could just get them to grow out faster I'd be set.

Awesome Tret's for everyone. Just think after 6-8 months you'll have some 1" fry .

What do you feed the fry currently?

I've had lots of luck getting fry to grow super fast on decapsulated brine shrimp eggs (SEVERAL TIMES faster than when I fed previous spawns frozen cyclops-eeze, golden pearls, or crushed flakes). When they are bigger I feed either golden pearls several times a day (they digest it extremely easily...it's practically pure protein LOL).

So I'm assuming that Trets are just as annoying as Altolamprologus in terms of how slow they grow?

I remember I bought 4 F1 A. calvus Nkanda (yellow) at 1.25"....two years later they were only 2.25-2.5" total...

I've been feeding them Golden pearls at first and then NLS Grow Their first spawn are around 3/4" Theirs about thirty or so. Theirs sixty from the second and who knows how many eggs this time. I was a little concerned after last weeks water change the female was hiding up in the equipment and the male was keeping her out of the cave but apparently the got back together a couple nights ago.

I don't think their as slow as the Comp's and Calvus I have some gold heads that look the same as when I got them LOL.

The 75gal that they reside in is starting to look like a Brichardi tank I didn't think they would just keep spawning I guess that's one benefit of being an egg layer their is little to no recovery time from holding like a mouth brooder.

They raise multiple generations together? Fry removal isn't necessary in a species tank?

Like I said before you should take them out.... and put the old spawn into another tank...
for multiple reasons. Unless you know how to sex them, with multiple spawns
in the tank you just won't know male / female . If you separate them the largest is always the male and has a more robust body.
30, 60 to nn for spawns you will one day approach 200 - 250+ babies per spawn... and yes they grow very fast.
and besides how long do you think the tank environment can support these types of spawns... were not talking 15 - 20 eggs per spawn.
This is one Lamp. you don't want to have multiple generations in the same tank. Take it form me, once you set off the Trets. you can quickly have a thousand + babies before they shut down for a while.

I did pull the first spawn they are in a grow out tank the second is still in the main tank. the pair has become very irritable after water changes first the female left her cave and hid behind the filter tubes for three days then she came back the next water change she seems to have filed for divorce. Unless it's the male The larger of the two which I assumed to be male guards the cave and fry and chases the smaller of the pair off now that she abandoned ship?

Reguardless I got lots of Tret fry.
