First it started when a female Callochromis pleurospilus went missing. I found very little remains. Then I had a female Cyp. Pavo hold for the first time. I had been waiting for a long time for them to mate. I find her on the floor, in front of the tank after work. Still holding the fry. I had planned on moving her to her own 10 G tank that night. She jumped through an opening that I can barley get my index finger though. I cover the hole. Another female Callochromis goes missing. I tear the tank apart to find her. Nothing. As I'm rearranging the tank, a rock falls over and kills a White Calvus female, instantly. I picked up the rock and she floated out. I cursed up a storm. That one was me. Next morning my other female cyp pavo is on the floor. I forgot to cover the small hole back up after I rearranged the tank. Now, I go ballistic screaming and yelling, at myself. I'm ready to grab the shotgun and start shooting tanks. Luckily my wife calms me down. It seem every once in a while one tank just has a problem. Five females killed in 2 weeks. I just had to vent, at least in a way that didn’t involve a shotgun.

Sorry to hear that! I dropped a rock on my only male melanochromis in the tank when I was moving them to my 125. I had 7 females and 1 male and the rock dropped on him not on 1 of the females.
Good luck with the cyps. I had my adults in a 75 with no lid for 6 months and they did not jump once out of the tank. I guess I trained mine well? :lookaround:

That sucks. I have dropped many rocks but never killed a fish with one :icon82:. They always seem to get out of the way. Sorry to hear. :bandit:

You know I laugh about it now. I was so pissed. Now that I think about how I reacted it is pretty funny. My wife told me she wishes she had a camera, just so I could see the look on my face. She's still making fun of me.

Well it's been a few days! Have you calmed down? I was cursing on Sunday night after moving some small Tupperware containers with fry. As I was moving a stack of three, the top one fell into the second one then they both fell into the bigger one. It was fun trying to separate about 60 fry. I am glad they were 3 different sizes and were easy to separate. It sucked though because I was tired and I should have left them where they were because I was all finished in the fishroom for the night!

This sounds like it could have been YAP's story. I'm sorry that you lost these fish....but it is good to know that others have the same issues YAP has. I thought only my hubby had horrible luck like this.

I'm over it now. LOL What really bothers me was losing the pavo's. I had grown out 6 and only two reached adulthood. The two were females. Color was nice enough to give me an extra male. To lose the female holding fry was torture to me. LOL. But one thing about keeping cichlids is you have to expect losses. I dont like to lose fish but it is part of the hobby.
