I was just wondering if it was normal for aquaclear 70s, or any aquaclear power filters for an air pocket to be trapped up top in the intake siphon tube. On my Aquaclear 50s and 30s this doesn't happen, but it happens on my new Aquaclear 70.

Thanks,

I've had this happen if the intake tube is not fitted exactly right into that hole where it's supposed to go. Making sure you get a full suction through the tube will usually pull out that last remaining bit of air.

Yea, push down on it. Air pocket is not normal :bandit:

Check out the snugness of the intake. Is it attached just right to the base?
Is the filter crooked?
Did you try to go up and down with the pressure of the intake as well? Sometimes playing around with the force will release the air pocket .

Tried all that myself. Anyway I returned that one for a new one at one Petsmart, that did the same thing, so I returned that new one for another one at another petsmart....

That one works 100% fine :-).

Now I can finish tank maintenance and moving fish around knowing that the new filter is working properly...

What size tank? My AC70's dont fit properly on anything 75 G and above. They actually sit on the rim and dont fit over. The intake tube is actually touching the rim. This causes the tube to not sit properly. What I do is push down on the tube a little until the air is gone. You should see full flow then.

Right now it's fitting very tightly on a 60g tank...otherwise fitting properly.

FYI, I finally got a reply from Hagen and they said that if it's a new one doing it to return it for a replacement since it is obviously not working properly.

So everyone, if you buy and aquaclear, and it doesn't prime 100% properly, return it before it looks used :-).
