View Full Version : My Fish Room..
Hi Guys, here's a couple of pics of my fish room. The ponds are in dry storage and will come out mid December as it's still too cold. Cheers

Stainless steel? Did Cobby make them for you?

ROADTRIP!!!!
Thanks Guys, http://bestsmileys.com/blushing/7.gif My stands are galvanised steel and a mate of mine welded them for me, not Cobby. I've heard that Cobby welds a good stand though and he also makes some fantastic hoods.
Yeah, I've always loved my racks. :D

Sweet looking fish room...what do you keep? filtration?
I keep Malawi and Tanganyikan cichlids and some of the more common Bristlenose.
They are all individual tanks with corner sponge filters. Some also have small internal power filters. On my larger tanks, which aren't in the pics by the way, (8x2x2) I run Eheim Pro 3's and Fluval FX5's. Air supply is 2 Hi Blow 200's and I heat the room with 2 reverse cycle inverter air-cons. 26 degrees all year round. The wall and ceiling are insulated with 30mm (1 1/4 inch)polystyrene sheets.
Thanks for your interest.
Cheers Spud

Great job on the fishroom. I like the rimless tanks, which are not often seen here in the states.

I agree Bill. Gives the tanks a "clean" look.
Thanks again and most of our tanks here in Australia are made the same way unless it's a feature tank which is usually in a cabinet of some sort.

When he moved in he was given the go ahead to do whatever he wanted in the garage (it's a finished off room). He has only been here for 3 1/2 years and has redone it completely on several different occasions. He knows I don't really care if he changes it. He really enjoys his fishroom and it looks really nice. He made all the racks out of wood. I have to agree though, yours is amazing!!

Spud, I see two different size tanks.
What size do you have there?
Hi fischfan13,
I have a few different sized tanks in the room but most are 48x20x18. The centre row are 48x18x18 to allow enough room for my big gut to get through. :D The top row of tanks are only 16 inches high to allow head room. I've lost count as to how many times I've banged my head on the ceiling. Luckily it's only polystyrene. Left hand side of room has some 6 footers on the top row. On the far right of the room I have some 6x2x2's and 8x2x2's. Currently saving some dollars to get my dream tank. It will be a 120"x30"x24" some time away for that one though.
Forgot to mention that on the bottom rows there's quite a few 4 footers with centre divider for growing fry.
Cheers

Yup, that's got to be one of the nicest set-ups I've ever seen!
Thanks again Guys and Gals. Have to say that there's a blush happening up this end and it's not sunburn. I have just viewed other members fishrooms that are just as good if not better. It's the love of the hobby and the missus says that it keeps me off the streets lol. http://bestsmileys.com/peeping/5.gif
I love seeing pics and have been enjoying plenty on this fantastic forum but due to commitments and other forums that I'm on, I'm finding it hard to post everywhere. Will pop in as often as I can. Cheers from Oz

I don't know how I missed this post !!!!!!!!! MAGNIFICENT !!!!!!! :beerchug:
Thanks again guys. :) Anyone can do the same. It took over 2 years to get it to the stage it is and there's room for a few more tanks but unfortunately, low on funds at the moment. With the economy as it is, LFS's aren't buying as much and it's even got to the stage where I'm letting females spit as there's no point growing on the fry if you can't move them.

Spud - do fish clubs in your area have auctions? If you have the space grow out the young and bring them to auctions for a donation or split. That would also get your name out there. Especially helpful if you are open to the general public.
Of course we have no objection if you want to FEdEx us a box or two of fry....:a-okhand:

Hey Mate, there's only one club here on this side of Oz that runs an action. There is no way that I would attend one of their auctions because it was the hierarchy on there that hacked Plecomadness and completely crashed the site. It took a great effort to get Plecomadness back up to where it is today and that's mainly due to loyal members. :) The site had to be started from scratch and all previous history was lost forever. The Farkers !
Under local council rules, I'm not allowed to open to the public, only operate as breeder/wholesaler. It is also a lot to do with supply and demmand. EG: thousands of the same species of fish in all LFS's, I'd be lucky to get 50 cents a piece. I do ocassionally ship to the east coast of Oz where the demmand can sometimes be higher. Sorry to say that I don't have the neccessary permits to allow shipping overseas or I'd send some freebies lol. Don't know that I'd use Fedex, reminds me of "Castaway" poor "Wilson".
