I'm a plant novice, but I'd love to add live plants to some of my tanks. The number of varieties on the auction list was staggering. can someone recommend a good site to do some research. thanks in advance.

A lot of info - too much to digest in a day or so. Let's try this another way:
I know java moss, java fern and anubias species do well in low light tanks, which is what I have. Any other species suitable? maybe something on the auction list?

With low lighting levels, avoid any red plants. I'm no plant expert but there are a few suitable plants on the list: najas, cryptocorynes, italian val, ozelot sword.

I made sure there was plenty of low light plants...

Any of the anubias, hornwort, najas, crypts, vals, java fern should work out for you.

I can vouch for the vallisneria - the stuff grows very well. I have a jungle started from one plant and it makes a nice background plant - will grow as tall as the tank and then some.
