Never heard this... but it might be true with some of the ones that have those gnarly teeth. BN's... I really doubt would be a problem.

If it is an issue I would think there would be something on PC.

I have heard of plecos eating in to acrylic. As far as I know it is not outright deadly but can cause issues that lead to death (probably impaction my guess) I don’t think I would like to digest polymers myself. They can create chew marks on the acrylic. Um…. That being said I’ve always had glass tanks so it’s never happened to me.

I haven't kept Plecos in Acrylic "yet", but I bought a 150 Tenecor from a guy and he had a big BN pleco in it when we broke it down and he claimed it was at least 5 years old. I have ABN's in with 2 inch PVC pipe sections as caves and they scrape along the PVC all the time, and I haven't had an issue.

Ive never heard of this happening and as Sarah stated, Id only suspect this "may" be true with Plecs with Big Fangy Teeth. I honestly cant imagine a BN having this issue. Ive kept "Several" varieties of Plecs in Acrylic and Ive never seen this. Not even from the Panaques and Hypancistrus Ive kept in there. Perhaps its possible, but Ive moved fully to Glass tanks now because how easily acrylic scratches. But I feel, not likely. Id say, if you give the habitat necessary, they will chew on what they like, wood...

Congrats! what kind of pleco did you spawn?

If you're going to keep plecos in an acrylic tank and still worried, give them drift wood to chew on instead. I think, they would learn to prefer that eventually.

I've heard of plecos scratching acrylic tanks but not consuming it and passing away.

A bigger concern with plecos is wood / epoxy tanks. Ever seen a pleco with blue poop? Doesn't seem to harm them...just the tank they're in.
