I got one of these off Ebay new and I wanted to know if anyone has had experience with these. The Seller told me its not trademark "Poret" but its a version of Poret produced in the US and he knows several people that have built fish rooms with this stuff. I was getting tired of cutting the lift tubes on my sponges for my 10 gallon tanks, and I dont like how the smaller sponge filters work, so I figured Id give it a try. My main thing I liked about this sponge is that if I hate it, then I can use them as tank dividers or in my ac 70s and 110s. Minimal risk. Im not sure about these, I like the new Pro sponges. I have my doubts, but Im willing to try new things.

I picked up some Oase Biotec 5.1 and 10.1 cartridges at a pond supply store. Oase is a german company that used poret foam in their filters. The cartridges are made of the red foam (20 ppi), waffle cut with a slit in the middle. They are 9 3/4" X 8" X 3 1/2". http://www.amazon.com/Red-Pad-Oase-BioTec-10-1/dp/B000PR8YGU

I put a poret mattenfilter into my 90 when I set it up. I used the lift tube and slotted elbow from an UG filter rather than pvc, keeps pleco's from swimming down the lift tube. That setup as a divider is great for spawning fish and growing out fry w/out moving them to another tank, particularly helpful for sensitive fry like calvus.
