I have my new family/tv room up and running, with a 55 ince LED hanging on the wall. We have been trying to decide on a media center and the cichlid itch was returning....I am contemplating installing a large tank under the tv set.
A few questions:
1. Should I be concerned about moisture from the tank and affect on the TV.
2. Any suggestions or specifics on how much clearance I should leave below the TV and tank?
3. Photo ideas from anyone who has done this before?
Thanks,
Mike

Heck yea, you should be concerned about the moisture from the tank. Without going into specs. DON'T DO IT. Just my opinion.

It does not sound like a good idea to me neither...

You will never see it because of the reasons stated above.
I have seen 2 tanks BESIDES the TV, incorporated in some kind of wall unit
I'd be hesitant to try it as well.
If you did, make sure to have a tight-fitting lid, canister filters (to avoid unnecessary uncovered surface agitation that you'd get with HOBs) and probably install a fan to blow across the top of the tank. A dehumidifier in the room would be a plus.
Honestly, the only foolproof method would be doing an in-wall unit to completely separate the tank from the television. Not sure how if this is possible though.

electronics and water should be as far away from each other as possible. Simple as that.

From the internet: Factors that Shorten LED TV Life
Just like anything else, there are factors that can affect the lifespan of a LED TV. These include usage and temperature. Owners should be wary about exposing a LED TV to moisture because it can generate heat, which in turn, could cause light output to drop. In the same way, temperature also has an effect on the lifespan of a LED TV. It has been found that when constantly exposed to room temperatures above 77 degrees Fahrenheit, its lifespan could be cut short by at least a few years.

unless you are tight in space.. don't do it... The tank will distract you when you are watching your favorite TV program...

In fact I spend a lot less time watching TV since I started this hobby...watching my fish tank is indeed addictive....

I know what you are saying, but that statement always makes me laugh. We have electronics submeged in the tank plugged in.

those are electronics MADE FOR the aquarium and they are not gonna get fried in water (usually, except for "some" heaters).

Thanks to everyone that responded. Looks like I am inclined NOT to do it. The top would have been enclosed with a wood canopy with a small fan running to vent out the moisture. And I have 50+ inches from the floor to the bottom of the TV. I also would have done a drilled tank with sump filter to the cabinet underneath.
