Anybody have any idea of what might be wrong with my truck? I have a 2003 Durango 4x4 with 115,000 miles on it. Starting last night driving home from work I'd be going along and all of a sudden my RPM's would shoot up between 500 and 1000 more than what was needed. It sounded like the engine was trying to get into another gear but nothing would happen. As I stopped at a stop sign I could take my foot off the brake and the truck would get up to 20mph without me putting my foot on the gas. As I drove in this morning the same thing was happening with the RPM's and the truck would lunge forward as well. I drove it directly to the dealer and because I didn't have an appoinment they'll get to it when they can. Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong? I have a feeling something transmission wise.

could be a number of things. May just be that the trucks computer needs to be reset so that the shifting points are correct again. I would unplug the battery over night, then reconnect and see if that does anything. I belong to an F150 truck forum- thr boards got lots of members who are regular truck owners as well as certified Ford mechanics. More than 90% of the time, they are right when asked for advice.

Google Dodge truck/Durango forums and give that a try- more than likely they will point you in the right direction and not to a Dodge "stealership"

Let us know how you make out.
good Luck

I got lucky, it ended up being a bad/stuck Throttle Positioning Sensor. Definately a lot cheaper than a transmission.

Good news for you Snitch.
As for me, my Dodge Ram just sucked $454 out of my pocket for a new bearing.

Lets see, I have owned a Bronco (full size, of course), a Ranger, two Explorers (one was an Exploder) and a Mercury Capri ('84).
When I shopped for this last truck I was in a Dodge/Ford dealership.
Rebates and overall comfort was why I chose the Dodge, as I would do again if I had to choose between the two.

you guys may just need a Ford. I had one about 10 years ago. Same problem had to replace the fuel sensor. Nothing like a Toyota.

Had my Toyota truck for so long i got sick of looking at it and gave it away. Nearly 400k miles. Good truck. But i like my Fords too.:bandit:

Flare, nice looking truck. Is that where you get your screen name from.

I bet that gets worse gas mileage than my Durango. I've been looking for a rat of a car $1000.00-1500.00 for driving back and forth to work, 36 miles one way.

yeah, its my toy and where my name came from.

It gets pretty poor gas mileage, but it sits in the garage (fits with 1/2 inch to spare) I only drive it occasionally to pick something up or in the warm weather to a truck show or two. Its basically a garage queen.

I have an Altima for the commute into the city for work which is pretty good on gas.

I have to admit, Dodge has it all over Ford in the appearance department
