Fake/coated driftwood?

I found this large piece of what I thought was a plastic replica of driftwood at a yard sale, but when I took the base off it looks like real wood. It's hard like plastic. I'm thinking it is coated with some kind of plastic epoxy.
I thought it would make a nice addition to my tank.
Anybody ever see something like this? Does anybody have any ideas on how I could use this safely? Maybe soak in bleach and then coat bottom with an epoxy?:coz:
