im planning on making a sump sometime soon. i was just wonndering what material is best to use for optimum biological colonization. system will be filtering roughly 700 gallons. so far the obvious is bioballs, sponges. i have seen on the net something like long shredded paper looking filter bio media. what is that called and anyone use it?
thank you
phil
I've used bioballs in the past but right now I use nylon pot scrubbers. More surface area than bioballs and cheaper.

I'm currently using Bio-Balls and Pot Scrubbies in the same sump. If/When I decide to make another sump the Pot Scrubbies with be the bio of choice.
