Getting a little more color at about 2.75-3" and starting to really court the females. He does something I've never seen before: He grabs a mouthful of sand from the bottom, swims to the tops of rocks and slowly lets it fall while he does his shimmy-shake.

Great looking Lethrinops, Nick.
Do you think the male is "multi-tasking"?:partay:

I've seen these on the Atlantis list in the past. Wonder of he'll have them this Saturday? Would be nice.....

I saw them there two weeks ago but I wasn't sure if they were breeders, wildcaughts, or tank raised for sale.
They definitely do have them though and they are 3-4" I think when I saw them. I'd give Pete a call if you want to see if they are for sale and just not on the list.

Nice looking Lethrnops! Here is an old pick of my male Lethrinops "msabi creek"

Great looking young guy, Nick. I'm keeping a single Lethrinops furcifer, and a quad of Lethrinops "Red Cap" Itungi. These have quickly become my favorite fish. They are beautiful and peaceful. They should always be kept with a sand substrate because they just love sifting through it. You'll miss that natural behavior without sand.
I'm surprised the Lethrinops group is not more popular among hobbyists. They're a great fish.

I'm just surprised it's taken me this long to get into them! Ha! Thay really are cool fish. I was doing a WC on the tank with the albus and noticed something odd in the sand. Whirled the vacuum tube over there with my finger kinda dragging thru the sand and all of a sudden a freaking fish comes flying outta the sand--SOB, startled me so much i couldn't tell if it was a lethrinops or a copad (by the time I was thru with my little girl scream--the fish had darted behind a rock):pointlaugh:
I may end up moving the group of albus into the tank with the placido Jalos & the aul. CTNorths. This male isn't all psycho aggro Mbuna style, but he may be a bit to highstrung for the copad VGs. I've got some Lethrinops red cap chirwas and some aul CTmasinjes that are growing out of the tank they're in & I think they'd be a better match for the copads.
BTW--the Lethrinops genus has got quite a few slots on my Top 10 wish list. That Mbasi, micrentodon makokola, microstoma, auritus lion........I......need.......to.....quit......... .looking.......at pictures................of fish.........(spoken in a James T Kirk voice) HA!

Fab-u-lous!!
I actually sucked in my breath when I saw that picture!
Ok, yeah, I admit it .... when it comes to fish, I am as shallow as they come....it's all about visuals for me, so yup, give me eye candy every day of the week!
:ty: both Nick and Ed for the thrill!

Yeah, these are definitely beautiful fish. I have a group that came from RSC a few months ago and they're already colored up and spawning. They're active but peaceful. I have 3 males and 7 females housed in a 30 gallon, and everybody's fins are perfect. They do like to sift the sand and will dive down if they get spooked. I'm surprised these guys don't get more attention too. I think they rival the beauty of the peacocks without the aggression.
