im not happy w the last 2 i had.. both of them never kept accurate temps and 1 of them knocked out a whole tank cuz the temp shot up to approx 98 degrees.. i had it set on 73 degrees..
no matter how low u turned the temp down, the lite would always stay on.. now that that fish store isnt around anymore, im stuck w 2 dud heaters.. i will email the co directly and c if they will do anything about it..
so, long story short, i am def not a fan of the eheim jager heaters.. i will stick w the visotherms.. ive had some visos for a long time and never once had a prob w them.. just my 2 cents bout the jagers:mad2:

Yeah I'm not a fan of the latest version with the red calibration dial. It's still a great product but a PITA that you have to recalibrate it. Recalibrated the one in my office and it's good to go now.

A blue jager vs a non-shatterproof glass heater (both heaters were plugged in and heating when out of the water):

Greg which version jager did you have? The newest one with the red calibration clip? One with the blue button/tab? Or one of the really old ones?

I absolutely hate my Jagers heaters.
One of my 55g's went up to 82f, when it was set at 76. When I reset it to 72f it went down to 72f.

None of the companies make heaters like they used to. Everybody is cutting corners and using cheaper components. Ebo-jager and visi therms were great heaters, but not any more. I've had good luck lately with heaters made by Rena.

So far I'm loving my new Fluval Ms.... and have gotten rid of all my visitherm Stealths due to recalls. Hate the Sera heater, and still haven't had enough time with the new Jagers to know how they'll shape up.
But- so far, my best guess is that the next heater I buy will be a Fluval...

+1 for fluval, I also got two of the black aqueon pro heaters because the store ran out of fluvals, and the aqueon pro seems good too. The temp actually matches the dial on the heater.

Greg, try the via aqua titanium heaters. lots of good reviews.
also use a small heater. You would rather have 70 degree instead of 92. In the winter I add another small heater if the tank temp drops too low.

The fluval m's would be perfect if Hagen would just make the glass shatterproof. When I first got mine, even though KensFish really OVER packed them with newspaper, one of them arrived shattered. First time I ever had a glass heater arrive broken to me from any retailer.
I honestly don't understand why more manufacturers don't just make shatterproof glass heaters... It's not much more money to do that and the cost gets passed on to the consumer either way.

yes, the 1 w the red clip is the 1 that fried up my tank.. i have that 1, and the old ones too.. the other ones w the blue temp turn knobs get stuck.. i have to grab the whole heater just to try to turn the knob.. some of the older ones still work well.. i got a few dif kinds from petland discount lately and they seem to b ok 4 now

I picked up a Fluval M on Saturday. TFP also had Fluval E heaters which are very expensive plastic-encased heaters.

I've had a Fluval M running since January- does quite well even with up to a 20 degree difference between air and tank water temperatures.
