They usually start off the new year with a Febraury auction in Massachusetts. This year it's February 8.
Unfortunately the web site is down for now. http://www.pvas.net/html/
We tried to go last year but were scared off by a non existent snow storm.
Anyone up for a road trip next February?

What would make you think that anyone here would want to go on a road trip to get fish.:p:p:p
By then gas will be about 59 cents per gallon.

I hope you all make the trip. It is the only one that is in my area.

Stang - I used to go every year when it was held in Enfield. How much farther north is the current location?

Anybody interested in going on this trip to the PVAS auction? We could meet somewhere and form a car pool/caravan.

I'm not sure yet. I'm still recovering from yesterday's road trip. I think that photo of Bill and Joe has left us all scarred for life.

yep, I will be there.
Hey if anybody is going, let me know.
I have some cyphos (Burundi) juvies I would like to get rid of. Not sure how many just yet. I dont plan to put them in the auction. Based on experience, I know that club is going to bank between $5,500 and $8,000 on the 50/50 split. So if anybody wants to swap something between ourselves, let me know. I dont want to sell these fish, just trade with somebody who may be interested. I also have 3 adult female phenochilus if anybody needs some more females to add to their group. I also have four Zaire (blue cyphos) to possibly move out.
BUMP,,,,,AGAIN.
I would certainly like to go if someone from here has any Compressiceps OR Calvus they are getting rid of. Adult sizes preferred.
I too would like to save a little by buying outright from the seller, this way,,,you make $$ without the 50/50 split???

FYI guys - the split on pre-registered fish for our 04-04 auction is 70/30.
AlishanAS,,,,are you talking about the PVAS Auction???
I hope not,,becasue I have pre-registered before and still got a 50/50 split???
Something new perhaps?
Still looking for anybody selling Altos.

No problem.
I haven't been up to that auction in years. I was not happy that they moved it further north.
A few of us thought about going but I have too much going on at home to make the drive.

For those of you who passed on the drive North, you didnt miss much. Last year when they moved it further north, I skipped it for the first time. I had been to the prior 16 of their auctions and never missed a year.
I decided to go this year and it wasnt all that great. If you wanted peacock fry- you would have been in heaven. There were a few types of basic tropheus fry and very few other tangs.
First time I attended an auction and bought nothing. I left after only an hour

What a GREAT auction!
Flareside, you left way too early, the bags kept coming and coming.
At 6:00 they still had 350 bags of fish left and started to blow them out.
I got:
Neolamprologus buescheri Mbita (donation from Doug Conklin)
Cichlisoma boliviensis
Red empress (got them for Carlos who could not make it)
Hap Obliquidens (also for Carlos)
Sciaenochromis fryeri
Breeding pair of Albino Ancistrus
Breeding pair of a longfin albino Ancistrus and Brown Ancistrus
Bunch of brown Ancistrus
Stack of slate
30 gallon tank
20 gallon drilled and bulkheaded (for $1)
All for a total of $101!
There were very few bags at the preview and I was disapointed like Flareside, but they kept pulling out boxes and boxes of more fish during the auction. They used the table system in a separate room, so we were able to preview the bags all day, and night, long without interfering with the auction.
I stayed to the end, about 8:00, and was acclimating till after midnight.
I think this was the biggest auction I have ever been to, I'm definitely going back next year.
6stang9: Sorry I could not chat, I really wanted those fryeri, they went up at the end, about 7:30, and I was able to scoop them. I'll see ya at the NEC!

Its a huge auction- no doubt. My favorite one usually.
I am recovering from hobby burn out and I have had all of those fish that were there. I was looking for something different or at least some of my basic favorites- adult alto's, mbuna etc...
I was also hoping to score a used glass top for a brand new 75 gallon I have just sitting and collecting dust.
I wish I had grabbed those 4 ten gallons for a breeding project though:cry_ani:
Was that your first PVAS auction? How long was your travel?

I got 28 lethrinops fry for less than $3 apiece. A big pair of alb t reefs, and trio of Gephyrochromis sp. 'Msuli point, now how often do you see those? Also bought some dry goods. Only an hour drive for me. Some fish did go for some good money, though.

killies and guppies normally go for absurd money during this auction.
I have been tempted in the past to stop and grab some guppies at Petco on my way to that auction
I saw the albino peacocks...those were very tempting!

I got 24 Deep Malopa's and 4 mbawa black fins. I think I missed some Alba's. They were useing the 10 table system, but some of the lot #s were hard to follow. Like 124-15 or 51-03 would pop up all over the place.
