Living for 30 years in Northern Jersey I miss a few a things after I moved down to the Jersey Shore...
Good Bread.
Good Bagels.
An Italian deli that makes their own Mozzarella and knows how to slice Proscuitto.
Pizza
My two favorite "Pies" (yes, we used to go into a pizzeria and ask for a pie) are Johns on Bleecker in The City (Village) and Rays on 11th and 6th ave (again, The City). Johns makes brickoven pizza and Rays makes the best "two-hand slice" around.
Tell us where you have had the best Pizza...

I really don't have anyplace around me that can compete with a slice from NYC. Although the places around me that I consider good serve a "thick" crust Sicilian style pizza. NYC has thin crust and out here on the western side of the state its more thick crust.
I laugh when i hear people tell me their favorite pizza is Dominoes or Pizza Hut. <----I don't consider that pizza at all

I've never had good nyc pizza. Apparently I've had it from the wrong places. I've heard of ray's but never had any. As far as best pizza in philly, aldo's right up the street from my house has the best I've ever had.
Best cheesesteaks would be tony lukes or jims, downtown or steve's in ne philly.

The best pizza comes from my friend Pizza Paul. He owns Penndel Pizza (in Penndel, PA).
He came here from Italy with $75 in his pocket when he was 18 yrs. old. He turned his once small pizzeria into 1/2 pizzeria and 1/2 restaurant. He makes great pizza and can really cook!! You may have seen him on the last episode of the Sopranos - he was the man that was going to kill Tony. He came into the diner and stared Tony down and then went to the men's room right before everything went black. He is known as Mr. Penndel. If you ever go there, tell him Marianne sent you. He'll treat you like famly and you'll get great food.

He's not in the same shopping center anymore, he moved across from Big Marty's. He and I have a very special connection (not by choice). Paul's ex-wife is now married to my ex-husband. We were all best friends many moons ago and 9 years ago we foiund out they were having an affair. Paul and I went through some rough years (he's like family to me and the boys). We both came out on top and have better lives than we did. He's a lifetime friend!
My oldest son Tom designed the sign for the pizzeria on Route 1. He was only 14 when he designed it in 1999 when Paul bought the property he's got now. We had Ed's 50th birthday party there - Alishan and his daughter Liz were there. Good food!!!
