I hate to come home and find a dead fish. It seems every couple of months i'll come home and find a female fish ( doesn't matter what species) dead or extremely beaten.I never see any of the aggression take place. It's like they are on their best behavior when i'm home.

Yesterday it was a lemon jake female that was beaten pretty bad. I moved her to another tank when i got home yesterday. She didn't make it through the night. It sucks because my lemon jakes don't spawn very often.

Sorry just needed to vent.......

Ouch.

James, how many males are there in the group?

Just one, I had 3 females for him. There are a quad of young C. moori and a trio of yellow labs in the tank as well. Everyone pretty much keeps to themselves.

I have always tried to get groups of Aulonocara with two males. My feeling is that when the male has to take out some of his aggression it is better to have another male that is chased than a female who is beaten and possibly killed.

Try giving the females more hiding places where they can retreat when harassed by the male. I like using the floating logs by ZooMed. Holding females hide in them all the time.

Thats a great idea about the floating logs.
