A new Flash chat room has now been added for your pleasure, the link is on the front page..

however please remember that the chat room (http://forums.eastcoastcichlids.org/misc.php?do=flashchat) is for small talk, please use the forums for important subjects.

How about bi-weekly chats...like Mondays and Thursday for example, and then chats open for anybody online on the weekends from say 7pm-12am?

I missed yesterdays chat unfortunately...but that was do to setting up another tank and doing hundreds of gallons of last minute water changes and cleaning a sump and canister filter...wasn't fun...

But I think if we have specific times when it's open, like daily 6pm-12am for example, it'd be more likely for several people to be in the chat room instead of just a few.

Well it'll be run the way the admins want i guess. I've been around chatrooms (fish) for many years and scheduled chat times have never worked. But if that's whats wanted i wish them all the luck in the world. :smilewinkgrin:

I was a chatroom mod for years, right Zippo? It's a thankless job at times, but when the *little kids* get in there and start messing around, it's nice to have a big stick or a large shoe to do the right thing. But, until we see a problem happening... or during spring break and right after school lets out for the summer, maybe the admin could extend the hours a bit??

I did the chat moderator thing in a way too. Actually got paid. We did however have this neat little thing call "the boot" button which would be the equivilent of the big stick. I don't know if they can work that into this type of chat of not.

Now if I could just get it to work for me. I think I broke it from my end.

Every time I try to go to the chat is is closed. This has been the case at all hours of the day. If there is a desire to see an active chat here, then members really need a better way to know if the chat is open or not besides trying and failing when it isnt.

Is there any plan to have posted hours yet? To maybe make some chat mods jik they are needed?

As of right now if you see in "Recent Posts", subject "Chatroom", that it is "OPEN" then it is open.
Sorry if it is an inconvenience to some. This chat is not a full-time chatroom and will only me open when one of the Admins is here to moderate.

good to have it open part time for moderation purposes, but also- a lot of forums that have full time chat rooms also suffer by having very few new posts and interactions on the board itself

I've never seen a forum suffer because of it's chatroom. More than anything it helps. People who post on forums continue to do so. People who like to chat with friends do so after posting on forums, and so on. But what the hey, not my site. I volunteered to help and that's all i can do.

The reason the open room is empty so often is because a haphazard chat draws no regulars and without regular chatters who can use the room pretty much 24/7, there will always be a lack of folks who even bother checking. I assume there will not be anybody in the chat here except maybe on a Monday and that is a hard night for me to get in before everybodyelse here is done chatting. This seems to be an early to bed crowd.

Chat is usually empty until ten and then you get a bunch till twelve and a few straglers till one thirty. AM it's actually a late crowd.

I think that TTA is responding to the post by BFG.
TTA she was actually joking, as there were people in the chat with her and she was trying to get more people in there.
Check out the days that we have recently opened the chatroom...it is not just on Monday's anymore.
Jeff is right, we have a late crowd on this chat.

There are some bugs today with the Chat.
We even lost the box on the Forum Page with the list of people in the Chat Room.
The Chat will remain open throughout the night.

Please be advised that the chat listing on the Forums Page is gone.
We have been trying to restore a listing so that you can see who is in chat, but have been unsuccessful as vBulletin has removed some of its older add-ons.
If we update vBulletin to its present format we will lose the chat altogether.:rant:
