Part of the fun of being an East Coast Cichlid member is meeting other enthusiasts and having the opportunity to buy, sell and trade fish that otherwise may be too expensive or hard to get. ECC promotes and sponsors events that encourage folks to socialize, and provides this community forum to foster those relationships. Of course, that does not make ECC responsible for private party actions.

There were a set of rules that everybody agreed to when they became members of this website, and another set of rules governing the Classifieds section. One pretty much states that we treat each other with respect, and the other says that EastCoastCichlids is not responsible for any transactions performed between parties.

Due to recent complaints, I feel it's important to clarify that any private transaction that occurs is between the buyer and seller, and any problem that arises from a transaction is a private matter that should be resolved... you guessed it... in private.

That includes swap meets or parties that occur on either side of an ECC event. Know the reputation of the folks you are dealing with before agreeing to a transaction, and if there is still a problem, try to resolve it with the person directly. ECC forums are not the appropriate place for private party complains.

Here's the text of the new rule:

On a monthly basis EastCoastCichlids.org, a not-for-profit site, sponsors events for you...the hobbyist. Events such as Group Buys and Road Trips go to places that are sponsors or affiliates of ECC. ECC does not sponsor or promote events for non-affiliated places or people, and we (the members, Moderators, Administrators and Owner of ECC) are not responsible for any problems that might arise from such events. Also note that ECC will not allow any members to publicly blame, accuse or embarrass any other members from any type of transaction from either a sale or an event- such matters should be handled between the parties privately.

How can we
Know the reputation of the folks you are dealing with before agreeing to a transaction
when
any problem that arises from a transaction is a private matter that should be resolved... you guessed it... in private.

How can anyone gain insight into the reputation of any member here if only good things are allowed to be posted? That would result in a 'sanitized' view of all members...

When you deal with someone in a purchase, trade or any other type of dealing ECC is NOT responsible.
ECC will NOT be held accountable if anyone has a deal that goes bad.
We are a not-for-profit forum that is here to "better" the Cichlid Hobby, and it is something that we have been proud of doing for over 2 years now.

This forum does not make a dime on anyone's transactions.
We donate more money to Causes and Foundations than any other Fish Forum around.
We are here to give our members outlets to purchase fish and supplies with retailers at a discounted amount that they would necessarily not have the chance elsewhere.

Thank You.

How about a feedback forum for transactions? Or an ebay type feedback system?

I think that's a fair criticism, but my thoughts are that it takes hard work to build up a solid reputation, and only one post to destroy it. This community is small enough to know who's raising what, how they do it, see pictures of the fish, and read positive feedback. I know who I'm buying from before I bid at the auctions, and I'm up in Maine. I don't suspect that you guys down south have any less information.

I like the idea, but I don't know how it would help with conflict resolution. I think we've all been caught in a transaction gone bad at least once, even with reputable folks...

From what I have seen on this forum and some others, when someone asks about a vendor and you get multiple responses that praise the vendor/seller, that pretty much sums it up. Rather than having negative and positive responses, if you ask and get a lot of good responses vs a few tempered responses, you can easily tell the difference. At least I can and I like that. We need to keep things civil and that is one of the many things about the ECC that I like. :ty:

I usually say it like it is....so here is my uncensored opinion.

If you want a feed back system then go to eBay or aquabid. These requests are ridiculous to even consider building into a forum.

Grow up. The staff of this board shouldnt have to referee your battles like kindergarten teachers.

All they are asking is that if you have a bad experience, take it up with the member privately. Whats the big debate about? Who wants to read all the drama?
