I of course want Angelfish. I love tri-color sharks, green terrors, Jack Dempseys and plecos. I drive YAP crazy with some of my combinations since they can't all go in my tank upstairs. I do have another tank downstairs but sometimes I have to give in and let them live in the fishroom.

Rob, the Tangs are being out-voted by the Malawis by about the same number of votes that Artie's legs have.
You need a good push to win this one for the Tangs!

What's funny is that the Pole that I posted everyone had equal # of Malawis vs Tangs. Yet more peeps want Malawi and more people voted for this one :upset::cries::bandit:

Have you guys thought of selling a few copies of Malawi Cichlids in their Natural Habitat 4th edition? Apparently a couple people here don't have the newest edition...

Selling or auctioning?
If someone wants to donate a copy we will be more than happy to put it up for auction or a raffle.

Remember back in the day when the only African Cichlid book around was the Axelrod/ Burgess book? They would add a dozen crummy photos every year and call it a new Edition and I would of course waste my money on the "new" book.
I think they went up to the seventeenth edition. For all know Herb was putting another one together in the hoosegow.
Back then we also did not have the internet.

This newest edition isn't just packed with new photos...over 200 new species have been added to this edition, including all of the deep water haps including the genus Diplotaxodon in Malawi. And in my opinion, comparing the updated information on the species in the new edition compared to the 3rd edition is great also. There's also a whole brand new section on the deep water species (also including the Diplotaxodon sp.) including a few dozen more Placidochromis sp. not mentioned in the 3rd edition.
In other words, I think anybody who's into Malawi Cichlids, especially the Haplochromine, should invest in getting a copy of the new edition. My point is it isn't really overloaded with just more pictures and the same information, there's a whole lot more information including a brand new section. That's how I found out about Placidochromis platyrhynchus for example...

Also, have you guys though of having a raffle for Lampricthys tanganyikanus?
AlishanAS
02-15-2009, 01:17 AM
No. Lamprichthys is a very expensive, delicate killie that is easily injured in transport. Unless somebody donates a group or eggs we will not have this species. We do not intend to lay out the $$$.
emartin
02-15-2009, 06:58 AM

Hemitaeniochromis species? Erik Dyke just sold out of wild ones that he got from Old World Exotic Fish. I'm sure if one of us asked him we could locate any breeders of them and at least try and get some for the Fall Auction...
Other Malawi:
Champsochromis spilorhynchus
Chilotilapia euchilus
ANY LETHRINOPS SPECIES
Mylochromis plagiotaenia <---BEAUTIFUL fish... Erik Dyke has wild ones in stock. They're on page 294 in ad konings 4th edition malawi book. They have a greenish body, orange-ish cap, and blueish fins.
Mylochromis sphaerodon
Naevochromis chrysogaster
Stigmatochromis modestus "Red"
Just to name a few...
