I was talking with Haplee the other night about Ps. Elongatus "Chiriwa Bee". Lee was telling me how he would like to obtain a group of these. Lee is, to paraphrase an old commercial, like EF Hutton...when he speaks I listen.
Later that evening I had a little chat with Larry Johnson about the same fish. Larry likes the Ps Mphanga Elongatus. http://home.cogeco.ca./~ductapediver2/Larry%20Johnson,Lake%20Malawi%20Safari%202005%20pg 4.htm
Here is another stunning picture that I found on a Polish website...

Has anyone here kept the Mphanga? (Larry, this includes you).
Pictures?
Something to add?

Anyone keep this Elongatus?
Thanks.

fischfan13 over the years I have had more than a few Ps.elongatus.
Ndumbi Rocks (males are blue females are an 'off' yellow) Chewere and Mphanga's,which I have about 10 now that are wild.
I'm sure you would love them all!
I brought in a nice group of Wild Chirwa Bee's and go to a friend (I'm not sure that I mentioned that I import from the Lake),,,as I just cannot keep them all!
I would think the best thing is to buy what you like while Haplee buys what he likes,,,breed them and do a trade off!
Its the best of both fish to be had this way,,,if you have the tank space to keep them seperate.
My personal favorite is the Mphanga's because they are exact replicas of their parents at 1-1 1/2 inches and are very easy to sell.
Cheers,Larry

I have been looking at this fish for a while now as well. Last time I was at atlantis he had a wild group for $90. I really should have got them as the male was really nice. Oh well hopefully soon.

Isn't Ad calling the Bee a Metriaclima now (just like Chailosi's) on page 190 in the 4th? HOT looking fish either way!:)
I've got a serious woody for what Ad calls Cynotilapia 'elongatus chitimba' (pg 194) SMOKIN' HOT!
The elongatus mphanga are very similar to the Cyno 'elongatus taiwan'

Nick,it looks like I need to update my library. I am still using the 2nd edition. Thanks for the info as to the Metriaclima bee. The pic that Bill posted looks like the photos I have seen with some showing a little more blue in the upper body. I like em all, that Cyno elongatus chitimba is killer also. While we are at it I also like "elongatus usisya" but I have not seen them for a few years. I hope to find one of these guys at Atlantis in Feb.

Nice fish, but nasty as can be. Used to keep a group of elongatus in a 90. Come spawning time, there would be 20 fish in the top corner of the tank. Never could add any new fish to that tank. The dominant male would kill them in no time.
