This is my Fernando aka Uaru Fernandezyepzi. I got a few of these in last year and he is the only one that survived. I have never seen them before except in books. They have a ton of personality and while easy to take care of after they are acclimated they are a very sensitive fish. They get their feeling hurt rather easily. It has taken a year for him to relax and feel at home.

They are not the best pictures. I need to work on those.

Your the first person I've ever heard say they had these. And yes...I thought altums were tough. These guys make altums look like guppys.

I went thru the wringer with these guys and it was heartbreaking to watch them break down. While I think they suffer from the same fate as the altums as far as either viral or immune deficiency these have the added problem of being so shy. It took a very long time before someone could walk into the fish room and he would not go hide in a corner. You could almost see him shaking. Now he is okay with visitors. He is also now very happy with his new discus neighbors. He was very lonely and I will be keeping him a new tank mate as soon as I'm totally sure they are fully acclimated and healthy.

Yes bev they are shy and they just break down. They are so sensitive to water conditions.
They pit so easily. I was at the late john o'malley house with jeff rapps when we picked up his fish. He had some that looked like swiss cheese! John was a very accomplished aquarist so i knew if john had trouble with them they were tough.
Jeff had some tank rasied ones that were small 3-4 inches but they were like rocks!
If i had patience i would have gotten some of them...but i like my fish big!
Next time someone gets in adults if i can afford them (lol) i will give them a try!

I knew Jeff had them and I did contact him but never did get a reply.

Now that I have an account with the same place these came thru I'll be able to keep an eye out for them. From what I remember they were not nearly as pricey as the ones Jeff had or the other ones coming out of Germany...actually probably good size for about half the price. If I see them on the list I'll be sure to let you know and I'll definately get them again.
