If the Redsox make the playoffs they are the better team. Its not who is better for the last month but the entire season.

I disagree, the entire season for the sox and rays comes down to these final 3 games.

fischfan13

Quite possibly one of the best baseball night in years.
Four games played to determine two playoff spots.
Three games go to the final out.
The Braves and Red Sox complete two of the biggest collapses ever.
Cardinals and Rays with two of the biggest comebacks ever.

Rays down by 9 games four weeks ago...
Rays down by 7 runs to the Yankees...
Down to their final strike in the 9th...
...and the Rays are going to the Playoffs!

A fitting end to a rather boring regular season. Let the playoffs begin.

Last night we got to see the first of several unlucky teams the Phillies will make cry when they put the last nail in the Braves coffin in extra innings. Cardinals will be the next.

Narwhal72
09-29-2011, 09:18 AM
And then they will lose to the Brewers!

Narwhal72

Brewers 2-0
Phillies 1-1

Looking more and more like a Brewers - St. Louis NLCS!

That would be awesome as the Brewers would have Home Field advantage and they play best at home!

Andy, I heard rumor the Phils and Milwaukee are in trade discussions for the 2012 season. Sounds like you're getting Ibanez and we're getting Braun. :beerchug:

Narwhal72
10-03-2011, 11:10 AM
Ha Ha. Braun just signed a whopping 5 year deal earlier this year so that ain't happening. But you can have Casey McGhee if you want him!

The big question will be where will Prince Fielder end up next year? My money is on the Nationals.

But more importantly GO BREWERS!

Seriously I would really like the Cards to win so Brewers would get home field advantage. Lord knows we need it!

Congrats to Cards fans! Carpenter pitched a great game against the Phils sleeping bats. Should be interesting to see the tweaks as Amaro attempts to bring some youth and clutch to that offense.

eelsnot
10-08-2011, 08:00 AM
What Amaro needs to do is to get a new manager.

That's not about to happen. The past two seasons they've gone out of series not hitting. Manuel's the hitting guru, but it's amazing, hardly anyone blames Charlie. The media loves the man.

Manuel should teach Howard how to hit. He was terrible in the series.

Gary Carter was the last missing piece for a World Series Winning Team. He was the ideal catcher who hit with power & a great defensive catcher with a rifle arm. In that trade, not only did we get the best catcher of his time, but also a team captain.

He did such a great job with a young pitching staff of Gooden, Darling, Fernandez, Aguilara, Ojeda, McDowell, Myers, & a host of others.

Thanks Gary, for all your efforts in bringing a World Series Title to Flushing, NY.

+1 The Kid was definitely the last missing piece the 1986 Mets needed to bring home the Championship. I was at the Opening Day game when Kid made his Mets debut. The entire sellout crowd was still there when Kid hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the tenth. The place went nuts.

A great guy, always smiling and setting a good example for kids everywhere. He will be missed.

The Mets:

How awful will the Mets be?

Well, we have a Catcher and a RF...Josh Thole and Lucas Duda, after that?

Ike Davis:
The Mets trainers and dr's have been the leagues worst for years, and Davis proves this even more? Does anyone know what's wrong with his foot...and does he really have Spring Valley Fever?

Daniel Murphy:
.300 hitter who would be a DH in the AL. Can he make 120 games?

Ruben Tejada:
The new SS who came to camp late, and is now hurt.

David Wright:
Should have been traded three years ago. Should have been traded two years ago. Should have been traded last year. Should have been traded during the off-season. Now, once again, he is hurt and his trade value is pretty low.

Jason Bay:
Ummmmmmmmm?

Andrew Torres:
The best thing is that he hurt himself...seriously. Now maybe we can try out some more kids in the OF.

Pitching Staff:
Mets ownership thought they would help their hitters by bringing in the fences at the New Shea Stadium (Why call it "that other name"), but how will the pitchers react to giving up more hr's to teams that can REALLY hit?

This is my hope...
I hope that the last three games of the season are rained out, that might be the only thing that will prevent the Mets from losing 100 games.

Ha! For all you non-believers out there, NY Mets 1-0 in first place.

Actually, the Mutts have a surpringly good opening day record, I think it is the highest opening day winning percentage in all of baseball, even with them losing their first 8 in a row when the team was really, really bad. But if one considers the Opening Day Starters over the years (Seaver, Gooden, Santana), maybe not so much of a surprise.

It is just the other 161 games that are a problem. LOL.

Anyone notice who is in last place in the NL East?
This team has scored just 43 runs in 16 games...2nd WORST in the Majors.
How can a team that plays its home games in a Little League Stadium only be scoring 2.7 runs per game.

Anyone?
Bueller?
Charlie?

One month of the season gone, and yesterday was a microcosm of the season so far.
Phillies losing as they cannot seem to get a game where they have BOTH pitching and hitting at the same time.
Yankees being shutout by the biggest surprise of the season, the Baltimore Orioles.
Mets dropping dead a few days after they were once again showing life.

So far the Rangers and Rays look like the elite teams of the AL, and maybe all of baseball.

As many of you know I am NOT a Yankees fan, but what a crushing injury to Mariano Rivera. The greatest closer in the history of the game out for the season and possibly his career. IMO if there was never a Mariano on the Yankees there would not be the Championships of recent past.
This years Yankees team already had problems with the pitching staff, this injury definitely makes them beatable.

ESPN says that he had already made up his mind before this mishap as to whether or not this would be his last season. He hadn't told anyone what the decision was, but this incident has to influence it I would think. It would be a shame if this is how his career ends.

I know one umpire was sick before the game leaving three instead of four for tonight's game, but if this is how they perform with one man down they might as well just postpone playing the game. These guys are making themselves look like idiots tonight.

A Washington batter swings in the 1st and the home umpire calls a check swing which leads to Charlie Manuel getting tossed for the night.

Now in the 7th during the SAME at-bat, Carlos Ruiz lines a ground ball down the third baseline that goes right over the bag and they call it foul denying Victorino to score from second. Next pitch Victorino is safe by a mile stealing third and they call him out. Ruiz then singles to right but by now no one is on base any longer to score.

I cannot recall the last time a Mets game had me yell like that!!!
