I am not sure this is the right thread for this question. I currently live on an island with 3 fish tanks, 2 40's and a 75 gallon, with about 25 fish. I will be moving soon to upstate maine which will be a 8-9 hour trip, I am getting nervous because I am not sure if I want to sell my fish here (which I do not) or tackle the hassle of moving everything, I am not sure how to pack the fish so that they will not be to stressed during the move. I am looking for everyones experience on this and what would be the best way to move. Thanks everyone.

I would pack them last, in bags, then in a styro box with heat packs. Don't feed them for a few days prior to the move. When you get there the problem is going to be having a cycled tank for the fish.

You could get a couple of 5 gal buckets and some battery air pump and put your sponge filters in them and keep them running for the trip.

If your doing this all in 1 day it will be difficult but can be done.

I would do as advised above, but as far as cycling the tank.......if you have some sponge filters already seeded, pack them in bags with water also and they will be fine for 8-9 hours drive.

Problem is you will have to unload the tanks and set them up before you move your furniture and other stuff in. IMO

Then just fill the tanks squeeze out the sponge filters in the water acclimate the fish and your good to go.

Thanks for the advice, do I need to but oxygen in the bags when I bag the fish up and any ideas were to get h2o. When I moved out to nantucket I put 50% of the tank water in buckets and had one bucket with tank water and all my filter media in it and that worked but the trip was only 4 hours. will this work for 9 hours. Thanks again

Ambient air should be fine. There are a few places on line that sell "bag buddy's" that can help keep the fish happy. Just keep them warm and all should be fine.
Keep in mind most fish that are bought at auctions spend 12 plus hours in bags till they get to there new homes. Fish that are pack well will ship around the world so 48+hrs in a bag by the time they see a tank
