View Full Version : Kinda a MESS!

So you can imagine how it is near impossible for me to do water changes with a cane

My big show tanks have gone 2 - 3 weeks without a water change, and that also means without any aquascaping, trimming, thinning out of plants, etc.

I had a non-fish family member come over and help me do water changes, and I asked him to PLEASE PLEASE trim my tank plants. Just cut them down so the fish can actually have room to swim around!

He literally took a pair of scissors and just started cutting straight across, like you would do to a hedge. NOT the way to do trimmings  but it was FINE with me! Tanks are a mess so I was happy for the help.

I can't take pics to save my life, but here are two of one of my 125's.

Can you say OVER GROWN? :becky:

And yeah, so okay, in nature you'd never find all the plants together like that nor all those fish either, but I am an 'over the top' kind of woman, I like dramatic tanks with lot of fish .... and I don't do anything subtle. ;)

WOW! Those are the kind of show tanks you only see at a LFS that really knows what they are doing.

As far as the trim your "barber" non-fish family member gave the plants, I've had many a haircut that was much worse. LOL.

Definitely a planted tank with fish and not a fish tank with plants. Looking good! How do you manage with the pom poms and the cane? No wonder theres no free hand for a python.

Thanks so much guys! :ty:

Very kind words. :runnningaround:

I always say Takashi Amano would yell at me, as his philosophy is to use very few different types of plants, and a big school of the same fish (if you can see the fish easily, you have done it wrong), and keep things much, much more simple. But when have I ever been simple?

.... I do like planted tanks slightly overgrown and on the wild-looking side.

And for my friends who -- when I said I wanted to get a new tank for Africans, asked me why I don't just tear down one of my planted tanks and use it for the Africans ... now you know why! Tearing down tanks like these is a lot of work!! So much easier to just buy a new tank and start fresh.:beerchug:

And if anyone ever has any planted-tank questions or needs guidance, I'd be happy to help. It's really not that difficult. Remember, this was the type of tank I set up as my very first when I got into the hobby (except with discus), so really, it's not hard to be part of the "Wet Thumb Club" :becky:

Oh, and Artie....better watch yourself at the auction...yeah, I'm gonna smack you good my friend! :bricka:

...and I love ya too :huga:
