I have a 7" borleyi I want to ship. What size bag should I use and does anyone have any I can acquire? I found their website but they sell them 25 to a box and I only need a few.

My concern for using them is they are thin. A large fish can easily put a hole in the bag. I would go with the regular 3 mil bags. Only becasue of the size of the fish. Double or even triple bag the fish.

I agree with Heyguy, use a 3ml. bag , and double up on them. 1/3 water - 2/3 air. Good luck with your shipping.

I dont have access for pure oxygen to use a standard bag. Can anyone suggest a source?

You dont need pure O2. Use an airline from an airpump to fill the bag.

LOL
I dont think he wants "pure" oxygen just so he can fill the bag.
exasperatus2002,
if you are worried about the fish consuming the available breathable oxygen in the bag- give "bag buddies" a try. Made by Jungle. They are awesome :beerchug:

Yes - regular bags + bag buddies = good to go...
7" hap + breather bag = popped bag

Thanks for the help! I'll have to wrangle up some bag buddies.

Keep in mind bag buddies doesn't do ANYTHING for ammonia in the water or developed by the fish. You may want to add a small amount of water conditioner (like a pinch of ChlorAmX for example) to protect against ammonia otherwise they should (if the fish wasn't fasted for a few days before hand especially) suffer ammonia burns.

I have not used breater bags. If they are thin, are they bad or not worth the risk?

They're great for smaller fish and fry.
I kept groups of small fish I collected in Uruguay (acaras, chanchitos, livebearers, etc.) in breather bags for over a week... Just did water changes each day...
You can't double bag with breather bags (defeats the purpose)...so they're not good for spiny fish or larger ones that can spine the bag.

You can double breather bags, but it limits the amount of fish in the bag because doubling reduces the O2/CO2 exchange rate by 50%. I've shipped out hundreds of young BN pleco's in doubled breatehr bags w/out any problems, single bagging s pleco is just asking for a punctured bag.
