When feeding a slice of cucumber for plecos, etc.......how do you do it, just drop a slice in the tank?
Thanks,

Everyone has a different way.
I blanch a slice of cuke, with seeds removed, in boiling water...no more than a few seconds. Then I secure it to something at the bottom of the tank.

I cut mine in half longwise and remove the seeds then use plant anchors and rubberbands to weight them down.
I saw a good idea somewhere and eventually I'm going to get around to doing it. They used a skewer and spaced the slices out on it. Then put it in a flowerpot to keep it standing up. It was like a multi level feeding station.

I leave the seeds in. They are soft and the fish like them best IME. I don't feed veges very often, but the half lengthwise works well.

i cut them in half the long way, try to pop most of the seeds out, then i take a spoon and put it through the cucumber long ways so it can weight it down in the tank
Same as all above but, I like to use Zuccini as I find it can stay longer in the tank before it starts to break down. I slice the Zuc lengthwise either in 1/4's or in half, depends on the # and size of fish to feed. You need to remove the veg once it starts to become soft / break down so it doesn't fowl the water.

This is my method as well - though I've also used a blunt fork too.

What I have liked to use is a thin, 3/8 - 1/2" , piece of 1.25" or 1.5" PVC (don't use cpvc - it floats) . I cut on side with a hacksaw and it then becomes a spring clip that sinks. I wish I could draw or had a picture.

I saw these while looking through rosenthal pottery's aquabid auction and thought it looked pretty cool

BTW... why do you blanch the veggies? Is there a benefit to doing so?

I have always believed that blanching veggies keeps them down on the bottom of the aquarium.
I believe I heard some place that blanching makes it easier for the fish to digest the veggies.

I just slice mine and use plant anchors! They clean it all up! I do like the looks of Rosenthal's holders. The trouble with plant anchors is you sometimes have to search thru the sand for this. Those look easier to find.

I cut the cucumber in half and rubber band mine to a small piece of slate, i leave the seeds the plecos and cichlids both pick at them. I leave them in usually 3 or 4 days.
