here are the specs:
125 gallon tank
treated 1 week with pimafix
7-8 koi fish
25% water change on the 8th day with water that was sitting at room temp for 4-5 days and used water conditioner.
did the water change and 2 days later the water became foamy at the top like soap bubbles, but was not soap. Nitrate spike? the tank has been up and running. I lost several fish, luckily I was able to move to 5 gallon buckets with air. I'm losing it. What the hell am I doing wrong?

I have a 150 that has been up and running for over 3 yrs that gets infrequent water changes but is on a wet dry and gets topped off every week and have never had problems or lost fish.

I did get the fish from pets plus. I learned my lesson. got to get past the oppty for cheap fish that might not be best quality.
feeling ike throwing in the towel.

The fact that you treated the tank with pimafix would indicate that the fish had some type of fungus infection. Pimafix (and melafix too) will cause your water to foam. Koi are best grown outdoors. They prefer cooler temperatures. 7-8 koi will quickly outgrow a 150 gallon tank. A 3" koi can grow to 7-8" in 3 months time and over a foot in one year. Why your fish died is a good question. Perhaps the tank wasn't cycled. Perhaps they had a disease when you bought them.

I agree with what Joe said. pimafix will cause lots of soap like bubbles. I also have found that it takes alot of the oxegen out of the water as well. Certain fish really don't do well with it. My haps really don't like it. I used it on my hap tank once and they were all gasping for air with in an hour, did water change they went right back to normal. these are just thing I have experienced in the past. Like joe said they may just have been all ready sick.

What can cause a tank to recycle. because the fish were in there for several weeks before the tank was treated. Will Pimafix dosage and water change cause a tank to cycle again?
I'm running a wet dry and an emperor with a power head.
Thank god for the drum that I got from Ed, the fish are resting in there until things get cleared up.

First question is: what are the ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte readings.

Second question is: why were you treating them?
