I have had some accomplishments in my fish room that have been quite nice lately. Some excite me and others have become expected. It’s the unexpected that really make you proud. Today I came home a little early so that I could get a few fish shipped out. When I walked in to the fishroom I noticed something that alarmed me quite a bit. From across the room I could see four of Rose discus hovering in an upper corner of the tank and a group of blues I threw in there last night after picking them up in the front bottom corner. I was really shocked when I got closer and noticed that there were two discus on the other side of the tank acting oddly. They had spawned! I have only had these fish for six weeks and one day. They are wild. New arrivals! They aren’t supposed to do this. They were supposed to be one of my long term projects. Now I am going to have to get Gipsys and some more Heckels. The fish came from Anubias Design and there are more on his special order list for the open house

Thank you everyone! I was impressed with the way these fish bounced back from transportation. I think a few things factored in to spawn, incredible fish never hurts and these are just awesome they came in healthy and never looked back, very fine substrate allows the discus to puff and uncover food without dealing with gravel, a very clean tank that has water parameters that match their natural habitat during this time of year, and a varried diet that includes fruits and live food.
I will say again that if you have ever wanted wild discus this is the year to pull the trigger, I have yet to see any come in that look bad or unhealthy. The blues I picked up from Mark already look very good and there are alphas "semi royal" and "royal" fish in the groups I have seen. Most of the time these fish are sorted out by the exporters and sold for big bucks. I will start a new thread on the blues once I have decent pictures.
Lastly there is no reason to be affraid of keeping wild Discus, they are not much different from any other fish, if you give them what they want "space-water quality-quality foods" they will do fine. You end up with a fish that has personality and much like a dog will be happy to see you. Ed Martin got to see firsthand that these fish can be trained to eat from your hands.
I owe most of my success with wilds to Mark D who has taught me the proper way to keep them and encouraged me to take a chance. I am glad I did. Thank you

Gorgeous fish Chris! And yours were even better looking in person! I am so ticked I missed the spawning by just two hours when I was at your place Saturday...

Alas, painting is NEVER done! But I did get done what I set out to acheive that day!

Your fish are gorgeous, your tanks immaculate! Guess I'd best take the whole week off this week for a cleaning frenzy!!

Seriously, I have to agree with you about the discus this year. They've been top notch, right out of the bag!
