im trying to help a friend who got divorced and lost his house but got to keep his 189g acrylic tank that was a saltwater setup. the tank is in good shape and has a wet/dry with a pump. its got 1 overflow, drilled from the bottom, and the wetdry looks to be about 3ft..

of course , he paid well over $1000 for the tank and wetdry a few yrs back but what could he ask that would be a good to fair price??

the tank is in 1 of my friends garage now till we figure out how much to ask for it.
any help would be appreciated.. and yes artie,,i would take it if i had the room.. its lighter than a 125g glass.

thanks,

greg

Mebbe around $4-500. Dunno if he'd get that much but probably a reasonable starting point.

edit: that's if there's a stand included. If not, obv. less. There's a 270g acrylic with a stand FS for $500 locally right now for a comparison point.

Been reading a ton of info on the saltwater forums after thinking about starting a nano. You do have a few things going for you. First is the tank Fully stocked and still running or is it dry? Second, how quick does he need to sell/get the money?

The best selling point is the acrylic Vs glass. Reefers love acrylic for larger tanks especially since they can buffer any scratches clear. If he has time, splitting the parts up will probably yield more cash than a package deal. Craigslist listing generally seem to sell when the price is 1/3 the original, but ebay and forums can often move them at 1/2 the original (Again this is just observations after months of scouring for 55's and 75's for free). If using ebay make sure you have experience and set a reserve because 125 gallon tanks have gone for $12.50 in the past few weeks.

Also make sure he lists things like its been run as a saltwater tank before and hasnt been treated with copper. Usually the people who put as much history on the tank get better responses.

very cool.. the tank is empty.. i drained it myself for him and took it out the wall he had it in.. what a shame.. basically its just the tank and wetdry with the pump..if im not mistaken, he said he paid $1190 for the tank brand new.. everything else we kinda just chucked out,, prob shoulda kept some stuff but we only had 1 day 2 remove it.. kinda wanna stay off craigslist cuz theres some wackos out there.. try n stay local.. theres no major rush but he does need the cash asap is all i know

Just come up w/a price and post it here, MFK and ManhattanReefs. That should cover most of the East Coast..

I definitely agree with Pete.
$400 is a good asking price, but tell him that he might be looking at "offers" of less.

Greg, this is the tank I saw that you were storing on your patio correct? If so, yes, that was a sweet looking tank indeed!
