What did everyone do to get there spouse to enjoy or except the fact there passionate/obsessed with the hobby of fish keeping? I try to make my girlfriend part of it and she has learned a lot, but complains about the tanks all the time and that its a big waste of money. Just curious, all opinions welcome. Thanks

My wife has no interest either. As long as it doesn't take away family time and become an eyesore, I'm good.
The madness started off very slow, with my daughter winning a goldfish at the local carnival.
I started the hobby 30 years ago and the missus had no interest at that time. As the years went by, she said it was a good thing because it keeps me off the streets. http://bestsmileys.com/lol/1.gif In the past 10 years, we have turned our hobby into a small breeder/wholesaler business and we both work together and enjoy the hobby.
Bruce, give it time mate, the hobby will grow on her. http://bestsmileys.com/lol/4.gif

My wife actually talked me into getting back into the hobby years ago.:partay: Went out and got a tank, got another one.......yada yada. I guess she really does love me because once she saw how eaten up I was with the addiction, she actually started to try to learn some fish names and came with me to a few auctions:cloud9:

Thanks for the advice, we dont get a chance to do much of anything with a 3 year and 1 1/2 year old twins. Her and I went too a swap meet in lancaster last year and things were alright then again though i only spent $22. It will get better, thanks

My wife has zero interest in fish just as I have zero interest in her hobby -horses. Unfortunately she has not had a chance to do much riding over the last several years. Easier to keep fish in your house than stable a horse:erm:

Easier to keep fish in your house than stable a horse ...now that is an understatement.
We had up to 14 paso finos at one time. We are currently down to two. Fish are much cheaper these days. When we first started with the horses hay was $2.00 for an 80 lb bale, trims were $12 and yearly shots were $50. Now that bale of hay is about $8.00, trims are $35 (shoes all around $150) and yearly shots are about $200!
The fish were my hobby since I was a kid...for a long as I can remember...fish and horses. Hubby took a passive interest till after we downsized the herd to two horses and quit leasing a farm. He got bored I suppose and decided we needed a fish room, a full time business cause we had spare time. Guess I'm no help at all.

It helps if your spouse's hobby is more expensive than fish. My husband restores and customizes old cars...unfortunately he has yet to be willing to sell one, LOL! So he is thrilled when I want another tank...he can spend the equivalent on cars without guilt. He also likes the fish though. He checks each tank daily and expresses concern if he thinks I am neglecting anyone, LOL.

Now I know where I remember your name from Bruce. Glad to hear youfound something at the Swap Meet. Hopefully you'll find more this year....My wife has absolutely no interest either. She is very supportive though. When I spoke at Greater Pgh last summer she went with me and sat through the meeting. However the next day Eric B and I went to some fish shops and she went to the mall. We both have our addictions!:jump:

My wife is not interested either. I just have to keep the tank clean and presentable in the living room to keep her happy. She does watch the fish from time to time.

Well, it's weird with my husband. Sometimes he loves the fish other times he hates them. I have noticed one thing... he likes the fish when I have Petrochromis ??? HA HA HA I don't think he even realizes it.
In all honesty he is very supportive. I can not complain one bit. He wants to know when I have spawned something I have never spawned before. He builds my racks, works on the plumbing, and does the electricity on over 1,000 gallon of water.
It does help that he has a more expensive hobby :) Although I partake in the same hobby. SCUBA :) SCUBA is his passion and fish are mine. So the two go hand in hand and we love our life.
