I just went on aquabid to see what kind of bettas they have and the cost. There's a red half-moon for $150 that's not paying for the shipping or the additional trans-shipper cost ouch. I've never kept betta's but I was considering attempting to breed a strain I liked. I did see a blue mustard gas fish I liked and females were also available. Has anyone actually purchased from Tailand ? What type of shipping cost's can I expect. Also the male was $40 and are the females more expensive or less. How many fem's would you purchase for a small breeding operation. I know the males do the nesting, do you need an even amount of males and fems?

Jeff, speak with Tommy (AlishanAS). He knows the guy that I bought my kids Betta from, and everything that this guy brought to the NJAS auction was top of the line.

Thanks Bill , aquabid did give me a good idea on what types I liked though. Your RED wasn't bad either. When I'm ready to roll I'll get that guy's #.

The Red was the second choice...I picked him up for $15. There was another that was even nicer that went for $25.

I'm not doing anything right now, maybe in 6 months to a year. If it work's out like every other fish idea I'll have a 100 bowl barrack's and breeding tank's all over the house.

Jeff, just a reminder...
At the end of October is the NJAS Fall Show.
Rich Martucci will be there and he has the absolute best Bettas around.

If you're looking for halfmoons or plakats and want to bring in fish from Thailand, check out http://astralbetta.tripod.com/ and talk to Michael. He should be able to find exactly what you're looking for at a reasonable price. Tell him I sent you. If you're looking for species Bettas, then email or pm me.

I picked up a male and female betta from the local Petco, they looked nice and I decided to go for them. A few years ago I bred bettas and even raised a few babies. Its been a while and I can't seem to remember what I use to feed them. Blood worms seem to ring a bell. Anyone know for sure what I should stock up on?

Bloodworms should be used as a treat, not a staple diet. I'd suggest alternating between Betta Pro, Ocean Nutrition Community flakes, Spectrum pellets and frozen bloodworms, mosquito larvae, daphnia and brine shrimp. You don't need to use all of them but any two of the dry foods with at least one of the frozen foods should work well.

I am interested in getting a nice betta or pair if possible. I saw this one on aquabid but not real keen on going through a trans shipper. Anyone know where to find one like this or close to it?
