Salt, or not to salt.
Lets hear it...who adds salt to their tank(s).
Lets hear not only if you add salts but what type, and how much per gallon.

I don't add a thing to my cichlid tanks, I have a ph of 8.2 from the tap

My PH out of the tap is aprox 7.6.. I add 1 teaspoon of baking soda,1 teaspoon of Epsom salts and 1 teaspoon of sea salt or kosher salt per 10 gallons of water changed. I firmly believe the salts help the fish fight off disease. JMO of course

I have been using Seachem salt for a pretty long time. I know that it would be cheaper to use Kosher and Epsom, but I guess I feel comfortable doing it this way.
pH out of the tap is 8.0, moderately hard water, and while the sodium level (NaCl) in our tap water is lower than the Rift Lakes, I don't add anything to my water.

Not to salt!
I used to use salt years ago but I don't anymore. I now use baking soda and Epsom salt.

The only time i use salts is when only i medicate. Usually 1tsp per 5 gal. I think I read somewhere or someone told me not to use salts all the time because the fish will build up a tolerance.

I used to use marine salt to get my tds up, and to help buffer my water. It's @pH6.4 out of the tap, but after a few weeks, it can plummet to pH of 3 or 4!! :eek: For my Africans I now use only baking soda and nothing at all for my SA's... or just a bit of neutral regulator. Salts are mainly reserved for sickness or for some new incoming fish that do better with a bit of salt added.

I only salt when I get fish shipped in and by the time I do a couple of water changes there's no more. Kosher salt by the way.

My tap water has a ph of 7.0, so i do add epsom salts and baked baking soda to bring up the ph and hardness. I dont add any aquarium salt to the water.

1 teaspoon Kosher/5 gallons and 1 Tablespoon Epsom/5 gallons
Always :flame::plasmawhore:
Always, I'm another believer that salt (Marine salt) keeps the chance of diseases way down. 1 teaspoon per 10 Gals marine salt, 1 teaspoon per 20 Gals epsom salts.

For medication purposes I add Evaporated Sea Salt that I bought for $18 for a 50lb bag at a pond place in Wall Township. When I add it for medication purposes though, I add 1 cup per 20 gallons of water.
To help with digestion after feeding frozen food or just to add if I run out of Cichlid Lake Salt I add Magnesium sulfate, otherwise known as Epsom salt and I add like a handful into my 265g, and in my small tanks I add 1-3 teaspoons per 10 gallons.
During water changes because where I live I have acid water (pH of 6 or less) I add Seachem Malawi buffer and Seachem Cichlid Lake Salt both at 1 teaspoon per ten gallons.
