I love motorcycles....to me, riding two up with me on the back is a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, and many of my boyfriends had bikes (Murphy’s Law that the man I married does not ride).
BUT.... man, I so hate it when I see folks driving like jerks. Gives biking a bad name. This past weekend, while driving to the BCAS auction, there were about 6-8 bikers in a group, and they were being such idiots.
They were coming down the highway like an amoeba, no rhyme or reason as to what lane they would be in, darting in and out of lanes, cutting folks off to follow each other at wicked speeds... I had to hit my breaks several times just to avoid hitting one of them.
This morning, I had the same thing happen with a lone biker. Just driving insanely darting in and out of lanes, riding the line, etc.
To all you bikers out there:
PLEASE PLEASE  think safety first when riding. I certainly don't want to get hurt in a car accident, or cause a bike to lay down and harm the driver.
Riding is cool. Dead bikers are not.

I hear you there. As someone who has riden bikes since 5 years old, I have seen a lot of idiots out there. Unfortunalty with motocycles you will eventually fall. Falling while darting around traffic will usually get you killed. Plus you lose aginst just about everything if you hit it.I've had a few friends tell me after a few months of riding they were experts. They all learned the hard way. All broke bones. Two completly totaled their bikes. One was a $25,000+ Harley. It was three months old. I currently don't own a street bike, but I do plan on owning one again. I'll stick with dirt bike for now.

There are many motorcycle organizations and associations that give courses on safety tips and safe riding. Even experienced bikers often learn A LOT from these courses. I have always requested every boyfriend to take the course and they all end up praising them up the ying-yang no matter how long they have been riding.
It's also quite a different feel if someone has been riding as a single and then changes to riding two up, with someone else on the back. You have to move in sync, lean together on curves ... its very different than riding solo. I can always tell when a guy is inexperienced. They don't know how to ride with me on their bike.
Some motorcycle clubs promote safe riding, but many have this baaaadddd-ass attitude and push their members to take chances.
I HATE IT!

When you see them coming up on you, use your windshield washer....a lot.
You can also slide over into the breakdown lane a bit and kick up some sand too

jeez... remind me to stay away from you lol... being a rider myself it is unfortunatly MOSTLY (not always) the sport bikes that are the ones weaving in and out.. not saying i dont do it but i tend not to.. more dangerous then bikers are the people in cars that either just dont care or are too dumb to realise.. just last saturday: going from rt 4 west to rt 17 south, some chick in her car tried to pass me on the entrance ramp (one lane) all while on her cell phone. after i was off the entrance ramp she then procceded to cut me off again after driving on the shoulder to get to the mall. people like that shouldnt have DL's...
on a sad note, this sunday is the annual bike blessing so no auction for me =(

You are in CT, right Les?
Mental note to myself: STAY OUT OF CONNECTICUT when I am on a bike!
:neener:
I actually like to see bikers out on the roads. A big group of 25 motorcycle riders go by me, and I find it quite thrilling. I am the nut in the car giving them all the thumbs up (which is what bikers do when they pass each other on the roads).
I had a summer house on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire for many years, and they do a BIG bike festival for a weekend every summer. Big banners and signs all over the town saying WELCOME BIKERS.
We are talking hundreds of bikers attending!
It was kinda understood that whatever guy was my boyfriend at the time, if he rode, we took the bike and headed up for the weekend.
What can I say, I like long road trips of every kind... in the car, or on a motorcycle.
I was born to be a passenger! ;)

It's funny that you didn't marry a biker Alesia.... as I usually dated guys with bikes when I lived in L.A..... so of course I didn't marry someone with a bike either.
As you stated, you can can tell if a guy knows what he is doing by the way they lean etc when turning. Luckily I always dated guys that were good bikers for the most part. Not the Harley types... I hate Harleys lol.... ended up dating the guys that were into European bikes. In LA the harley types are also usually the gang types. So, I tried to stay clear from them.
The nicest bike I got to ride quite a bit was one that a boyfriend owned. He eventually ended up selling this bike... but man, was it a nice ride....

And that's why some people on a bike carry a little pouch of porcelain chips . I ride a street legal dirt bike and have had all sorts of run ins with crazy drivers ! But that's why I like riding dirt , a tree won't pull out in front of you then tell the cops you were speeding .

Jimmy, maybe you missed the part where it was noted that the riders were driving like a-h0les?
I have ridden for years but I still shake my head when I see morons giving everyone on a bike a bad reputation because they need to grow up or die trying
