im a big fan of prime conditioner what about you guys? not only is it a great product but its also economical. i like the fact that 1 cap doses 50 gallons as opposed to a bunch of capfuls every water change. thats less purchases that i need to do yearly :D

I like Prime and have bought it several times.
Now I usually buy the most inexpensive conditioner that removes Chlorine and Chloramine and detoxifies ammonia and nitrite.

Def used prime but damn that sh@# stinks. Other than that never had a problem with it. It was my favorite at one time to I realized there almost all are the same stuff IMO.
Used to use Prime until I discovered ClorAm-X @ Jehmco.

Cheaper and works just as well.

i asked her about this when i ordered but the pond treats like 5000 gallons (5lb) as opposed to 7600 if it is the ultimate 1 gallon. so i went w/ the gallon. now im saying this off of what they said it would treat. i do know this is gonna be a site i add to my favorites list.

I wonder if there is a small sized carbon filter you guys could use for your fish rooms? The whole house ones can be pricey at about $1200.
I don't know if they make somethng small and inexpensive like that or not. I have one for our house and never having to bother with the chemicals is really nice. I will never accidently forget and kill a tank of fish. We did this for the business and with the amount of water changes we knew we would be doing.
I haven't looked but maybe TFP has something like that?

Since adding the fishroom, the ChlorAm-X has saved my budget! I buy the 10# buckets for even lower price/per. The bucket lasts me for over a year. So, I'm investing about $50 for a years worth of WCs--I can handle THAT!:)
Bev N, the whole house style carbon filter would be fine for chlorine, but for the chloramine in my tap water, it's not as efficient.
If you're depending on 1. filtration with granular activated carbon to break the chloramine bond, make sure the carbon is fresh and the filtration is slow. Since some ammonia is likely to be freed, one way or the other, you have an additional incentive to de-chloraminate before you add water to the aquarium.

We have chloramines in our water here too and have had for a number of years. I think that all municipal water companies switched a few years ago because chlorine reacted with organic matter and formed chlorinated-hydrocarbons which are thought to cause cancer. So I'm betting everyone that is on public water has chloramines in their water.
They say that with that small water changes are safe but I do sometimes do 80% if my tanks are heavily stocked with no ill effects so I am assuming that the carbon filter is doing a fairly good job. I know that my tap water doesn't test positive for ammonia which is the problem in chloramines. It's basically, as you probably already know, a combination of chlorine and ammonia.
In any case the carbon filter does the trick here. Perhaps your levels are higher.

My whole house filter cost under 40$ at Wally World. It filters down to .2 microns with the carbon insert. You can get a 2 pack of the filters for 10$ or so. Been using mine as a stand alone filter for adding water after a change. It's a strange looking setup but works great.:bandit:

Wow...now that is not a bad deal. I don't know what the price on my system broke down to but I'm betting it was more than $40.
I figured someone out there already made something like this.
