I'm in the process of doing some internet research of building a carnivorous plant terrarium for my son. My plan is to take an old 10 gallon tank and use that. Has anybody here ever done that or have suggestions of what to do?

Thanks

Well, I did one this winter: http://forums.eastcoastcichlids.org/showthread.php?t=3056.

So far, we lost the butterwort, but all the other plants are doing great. I think we've used this website (I'll dbl check) for advice: http://www.sarracenia.com/faq.html

General things we've learned:

The substrate for the boggy area is a mix of sand and peat- very porous, absorbant, and loose. The tank holds in the humidity, so we've only watered 2-3 times since December.

Only use distilled water for the carnivores.

We tried artificial lighting at first: fail. Southern exposure window is working much better. Just be careful not to fry any plants touching the glass in direct sunlight.

Have fun!
