(I wasn't sure where to put this... Maybe the "Tropicals" should be amended to include "...and native fish" or changed altogether to "Everything else"???)
The other night there was an awesome special on Darters and Dace and other stream dwelling native species with underwater footage of them in their natural habitat and in spawning colors.
Really awesome special.. It was no National Geographic or BBC/DSC Life, Planet Earth, etc or even a PBS Nature quality video but the video quality was great and for what it was (probably the ONLY special dedicated to darters and dace in existence) it was a great special and I only saw the last few minutes of it..
I tracked it down to being produced by Clemson University in South Carolina for a series called 'Expeditions with Patrick McMillan'.
More info here: http://www.clemson.edu/public/expeditions/ Seems to be a good series on local wildlife (but NOT limited to local wildlife). I'd compare this to the series you see on Animal Planet.
The particular episode is available for purchase here:

I know I plan on buying it eventually. I already bought an amazing book from the Pennsylvania Department of Fisheries on Native Fishes. The free online ebook version is available here:
http://www.fish.state.pa.us/pafish/fishhtms/chapindx.htm
Sunfish chapter here:
http://www.fish.state.pa.us/pafish/fishhtms/chap22.htm
Darter Chapter here:
http://www.fish.state.pa.us/pafish/fishhtms/chap23.htm
Dace and other Minnows/Cyprinids Chapter here:
http://www.fish.state.pa.us/pafish/fishhtms/chap11.htm
The book is only $9.43 shipping included so you'd might as well buy it. It's one of the VERY FEW books on Native North American non-cichlidae fish, specifically east coast regional native fishes.

Unfortunately it does not look like this video special will be re-airing any time soon, except maybe in South Carolina. If I knew it was going to air I would've recorded it...
