yup, thats one of the varients names.
Your white's are beautiful. :beerchug: They are also one of my favorite fish
I sold my adult group as they had become very aggressive but kept some juvies for a future community show tank

How do they compare to yellow lab's? Yellow's are pretty mild

I wonder if you crossed them with reg lalbs would you get 50/50 fry. Not that I would but I was just wondering

You still talking about fish?

white labs are much more aggressive than yellows. I would classify them as aggressive as another labichromis species- Pearlmutts.
I believe crossing them would NOT yield 50/50. Im pretty sure it would look the way crossing a lab pearlmutt or lab hongi crossed with a lab yellow- lots of white, faint gray bars and a lot of yellow on the body.
White labs do have bars on their body and some masking on the face- especially on males during courting

same temperament the only difference is their coloration. Funny thing is they are plentiful in the wild its the yellow ones that get all the attention though. I understand there is even a light blue lab in the wild as well.

you honestly find your white labids to be the same temperment as your yellows?????:confused2:

Yes I honestly say that. Why wouldn't I. I've never had a moments trouble out of them. They were quite peaceful. I don't post anything dishonest. Just what I know.

was just using a figure of speach. I didnt mean to imply that you were actually lying. I apologize if I came across that way.
My white's were quite aggressive. Though they were one of my favorite fish, I had to get rid of the adult group. Who knows, maybe something in the COnnecticut water LOL
I am growing out some of their fry in hopes of them being calmer.

OK NO PROBLEM. AFTER THINKING ABOUT YOUR FISH BEING AGGRESSIVE I WONDERED WHAT THEY WERE KEPT WITH AND IF THAT WAS A FACTOR. I HAD MINE IN A 120G WITH A EASY 80-100 OTHERS. I NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY FISH FIGHTING EACH OTHER EXCEPT FOR FOOD :becky: I HOPE YOUR FRY TURN OUT WELL.

well when I came out of burn-out this spring, I started adding tanks and fish again. The first fish I went after was the white labids because they were a favorite of mine from way back, and are pretty uncommon in CT. I found them in Rhode Island. Got an adult group of 6.
I dont know what the previous owner kept them with, but these guys were insanely aggressive.
10 years back when I had them, they were only slightly more aggressive than my yellows. Kinda like Saulosi. A pleasure to keep.
So these whites were probably kept with something nasty

Are these sold on the open market?

they are out there but seem to be somewhat rare, at least in my area.
Every once in awhile, they show up at a lfs, then they are gone again

The above quoted fish is NOT a Labidochromis caeruleus.
L. chizumulae is a completely different and seperate species.
The white forum shown in this thread is a color variant of Labidochromis caeruleus.
The availiability from Malawi is there, for the "white Labs", meaning if someone wants to order them they usually have them in stock, they are not abundant in the wild, but are easier to get to, since this morph is only a 10 minute boat ride from Nkhata Bay to the collection point, for at least one color morph,,,while other morphs, the travelling time is a bit farther.
Its a logistics "thing" the "yellow" are farther up north and it takes more time and effort to get to the location where they are collected,,,these fish are found in deep water and it may take a whole week to catch a decent amount for a single export!
While most people talk about the Lions Cove variety as being the nicest, the Mbowe Island morph is by far the nicest (pers.Observation) and is never held in stock at all!
This last year between 3 divers, only 2 observed at total of 5 Labidochromis caerulues and I was he only one to get a picture! Now that's rare!
Here is some more info that I wrote up for a CCA thread-

Here is some picts of my Labidochromis caeruleus (Nkhata Bay). I have kept them on and off for many years and found that they are no more aggressive than the yellow labs. They may be slightly more aggressive but have never hurt/injured any other fish. They spawn easily like yellow labs with small broods of about 6 or 7 as the females remain small.
