I thought this was such a hoot......
A MODERN PARABLE . .
A Japanese company ( Toyota ) and an American company (Ford) decided
to have a canoe race on the Missouri River . Both teams practiced
long and hard to reach their peak performance before the race.
On the big day, the Japanese won by a mile.
The Americans, very discouraged and depressed, decided to investigate
the reason for the crushing defeat. A leadership team made up of
senior management was formed to investigate and recommend appropriate
action.
Their conclusion was the Japanese had 8 people rowing and 1 person
steering, while the American team had 8 people steering and 1 person
rowing.
Feeling a deeper study was in order, American management hired a
consulting company and paid them a large amount of money for a second
opinion.
They advised, of course, that too many people were steering the boat,
while not enough people were rowing.
Not sure of how to utilize that information, but wanting to prevent
another loss to the Japanese, the rowing team's management structure
was totally reorganized to 4 steering supervisors, 3 area steering
superintendents, and 1 assistant superintendent steering manager.
They also implemented a new performance system that would give the 1
person rowing the boat greater incentive to work harder. It was
called the 'Rowing Team Quality First Program,' with meetings,
dinners, and free pens for the rower. There was discussion of getting
new paddles, canoes, and other equipment, extra vacation days for
practices and bonuses.
The next year the Japanese won by two miles.
Humiliated, the American management laid off the rower for poor
performance, halted development of a new canoe, sold the paddles, and
canceled all capital investments for new equipment. The money saved
was distributed to the Senior Executives as bonuses and the next
year's racing team was out-sourced to India .
Sadly, The End.
Here's something else to think about:
Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of
the US , claiming they can't make money paying American wages.
TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen
plants inside the US . The last quarter's results:
TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.
Ford folks are still scratching their heads.
IF THIS WEREN'T TRUE, IT MIGHT BE FUNNY
Until yesterday's e-mail from our CEO.
Some excerpts:
Aggressively reducing costs
implementation of a hiring freeze
decision to freeze salary increases
Driving change through focused leadership
Finally, I’m pleased to announce the formation of a new senior leadership team, .....Please see the organizational charts for more detail.
WOW! sound familiar? :grhair:

This is my last morning of freedom, after 3 glorious month's of waking up whenever I felt like it ,the reality of it all is too much to bear. Another two three year's ahead with maybe 1 week vacation per (unpaid) and no sick or personal day's. Obviously my post count will suffer but I think everyone will get over it. All right you won't get over it but try for my sake anyway. During the week you'll see me after 6pm. -----Ambush

One week unpaid vacation and no paid sick or personal days? What the hell is that all about? That's nuts. What company screws their people like that? Do you at least have medical benefits?
It's good you found a job but I would immediately try to find something better.

Thank's for coming to my defense. It's all that I said but I'm union and make descent money when I'm working and have good medical insurance. The downside is even when your fifty or sixty your doing the same job as a twenty year old and it's physical labor, so as you get older you get more paranoid of getting injured and being not as needed, even your better knowledge only goes so far because how many foreman do they need? .

geezz...that isn't the electrical workers union is it? Hubby has been with the same company for 25 years. The union has managed to not get him a cost of living raise in 2 years, no sick days, no paid holidays and a whopping 10 days of vacation time.
The son however is a member of teamsters and has everything.

Local IBEW164 . The only way you can have free day's is to be with a company a long time, then it's optional and when alot of people are out of work they take them away and tell you just to be thankful you have a job. I do however love my union and they do what they can for you, it's just the way the contract is layed out. Oh yea when a holiday comes up like 4th of july or christmas you don't get paid either so every wonderful holiday week mean's a 3 or 4 day check. That might be the worst of all.

Yep...teamsters is a whole different ballgame than ibew. Son works for a good company too...UPS isn't too shabyy. Hubby's company used to be good till the former VP passed away...then it sorta went to hades in a handbasket.
I guess it all evens out in the end, your in the union and earn big $$$ without vacation, holidays or you work like the rest of us earning 3/4 of the $$$ and lucky to get something for a raise in bad times.
It's not easy going back after that nice hyatus, hope they work you like a dog you bum:cry_ani::cry_ani:
