I dont know out of all the food I have feed the last ten years. It seems the NLS Large Pellets are extremely messy. I watched my fryeri eat them then I watched pieces escape through the gills and watch it settle at the top of the water. I hear good things about them but realistically most of my frontosas dont even bother with it. Ive been feeding it to them for about three months already. I feed them spiruluna pellets from OSI and they perfer them over the NLS. I dont know but somethings got to change or I'll just switch food. Dishearting when everyone has good things to say about it. I think Ill just switch to Ken's Fish Food.

Sounds like you need to feed smaller portions more frequently or go to the 1mm pellet.

How big are the fish in the tank? Try NLS flake.

Nls is a good pellet and fish get good color with it but yes, Large fish make a big mess with the larger pellets. Try the medium pellets or the smaller ones even with the larger fish , They do alot less chomping and still get fed.

NLS 1mm.
I have been using it for about 10 years and NEVER have had a problem.
Some people have switched over to the 2mm, and, to be honest, I have never heard a bad thing about that sized-food either.

I have found that almost all pellets are messy. I feed my fish (even large frontosa) mostly flake. I have often seen fish expelling pieces of pellets through their gills. I have never seen a fish expel flakes through their gills.

Honestly I don't get it.
NLS...messy?
The 1mm is pretty small and I do not see how it could ever get messy.

Have you ever seen flake food floating around the tank?

I have different sizes mostly all are 4in and above. Except the alpha male fryeri is 7inch and all three females are around 5in the three other males are around 4inches. And a 6 4in syn multipunctatus. Don't get me wrong I like the nls. It's hard to find I have to drive to pet plus in quakertown, pa to get it. I think it might have to do with my filter though it 7 years old. I might pick up a 2nd filter.

interesting thread to me, here is why:

I hear good things about them but realistically most of my frontosas dont even bother with it. Ive been feeding it to them for about three months already. I feed them spiruluna pellets from OSI and they perfer them over the NLS. I dont know but somethings got to change or I'll just switch food. Dishearting when everyone has good things to say about it. I think Ill just switch to Ken's Fish Food.

My frontosa and some other fish werent crazy for it either, some- but not all. Almost everyone on the web raves about it. Now I know of another person who I can relate to.

I think Ill just switch to Ken's Fish Food.

I did exactly that. They eat HBH cichlid attack pellet, and kens brine shrimp flake. Much cheaper and they are ravenous for either the flake or pellet

I have often seen fish expelling pieces of pellets through their gills. I have never seen a fish expel flakes through their gills

...now that you mention it...interesting. Very true
