So now that I'm thouroughly obsessed with upgrading to a 265G tank I have been thinking about stock.

I will stock all the fish below (signature) in my 125G and 75G setups except for the groups in boldface, those will be sold off to avoid any problems in the new tank. Naturally I will also sell my 125G, 75G and 29G tank setups as well.

So I find myself having more room to add a couple of species which brings up a question:

I do know the other species I want to add will be a group of Ps. Acei.
But being that this will be a LARGE tank, can I safely add any Peacock or Hap species to this tank? If not, maybe a C. Moori group?

I do know the other species I want to add will be a group of Ps. Acei.

Ted, I do not see why you wouldn't be able to add Haps or Peacocks to your 265g.
Anything is particular?
Protomelas?
Placidochromis?

Something colorful and strong enough to handle the Mbuna maniacs.
Also, most importantly, something with personality...maybe Some sort of Copadichromis?

If you're going with peacocks any of the Jakes seem to be able to hold their own in a mixed tank. My C. Moori seem to be just as rambunctious as my mbuna. It may come down to trial and error.

OK, So I'm going to do this in Mid-January.

Here is what the stock will be including fish I have and fish I will get (Boldface):

Ps. Demasoni - Group of 9
Labeo Fulleborni Katale - Trio
Ps Williamsi North Makonde - Group of 8
Cyno. Sp. Mbamba Lion's Cove - Group of 8
Iodotropheus Sprengerae - Group of 4-5
Gephyrochromis Moori - Trio
Metricalima Callainos OB - Group of 13
Cyno Afra Jalo Reef - Quad
Ps Acei Msuli - Group of 10
Metricalima Msobo Deep Magunga - Quad
Lemon Jake - Quad
Ps Flavus - Quad
Bristlenose Pleco - 1
Synodontis Lucipinnis - 6

That's around 72 fish give or take.
Any fish not listed here are in boldface in my sig and will be for sale.
Also, once I have my 265 tank I will sell my 125, 75, and 29g setups.
I'll post everything for sale here.

So what do you think of this mix? Species? Quantities? Is it the right amount of fish for this tank?

Sounds great to me, except I might delete one of the Cyno's.

72 fish for a 265g?
You know me, I would say you could probably have more.

How about if you delete one of the Cyno's you add one of these...

The Placido is definitely on my list.
Any of those Protomelas, IMO, would be a nice compliment to the tank.

I'm definitely interested in the 125 or 75 set up. Keep me in mind!

I can't get rid of my Cynotilapia species because I love them.
What do female Plac. Electras look like.

This is from Nick a...

Everyone was warning me that I'd have one very nice fish and a bunch of plain-jane minnows if I went to haps. HA! I think they all look great & I absolutely love watching this tank. The females are very attractive to me & the lack of wild aggression is refreshing

So males and females look the same?
That's awesome!
OK, that's settled. I was worried about having those ugly ass females like all Haps and Aulonocaras do.
Replace Lemon Jake with P Electra. Hopefully they can take care of themselves.

Males and females do not have the same coloration. The males will be blue as shown in the photo. Females are mostly silver with a faint blue sheen.

Yeah they don't look exactly the same but, the females still have the black 'throats' and vertical bars and although somewhat muted, their fins look nice as well. Can't get it to show well in these pics but the 'foreheads' on the femmes has a nice yellowish patch. I'm not sure how they'd do with mbuna, but in tank that size they're worth the try! Of all the haps/peacocks I've tried this last year, these are hands down my favs. They cruise the sand bed constantly taking up mouthfuls, checking for edibles, then spitting the sand out. They've got a fair bit of 'tude but never any real rough stuff that has caused real damage.
Tried for some quick pics a minute ago;

Although they all started out the same size, the Dom male is easily 1.5X the size of all the rest.

A couple others.
3 Femmes and 2 subdom males

I don't care what they say about you Ted--your 100% in the right place IMO!

They look great. I had picked Lemon Jakes for the yellow in them but I do like these fish.
And you say they have personality? I usually stick with Mbuna because of that "personality".

So I think I'm gonna go with the Electras.
I probably have room for one more species besides the ones I have and the ones I'm going to add. What do you think of Super Red Empress OR Petrotilapia Nkhata Bay Small Blue?

How about a Lethrinops species such as the red cap Itungi?

Hey Ted, are you thinking about getting two powerheads to help move the water, especially from the bottom?

misterted
01-02-2009, 05:18 PM
I haven't thought about powerheads. How would they install and where?
The substrate will be sand, won't they kick it up too much?

I thought you'd all like to know that I couldn't get the Electras so I picked up a Quad of Tropheus Moori Lapota Red Throats. Hopefully this experiment will work and they will thrive in my 265 with the Mbuna.
