Bock with cocoa.
This is what Sam Adams has to say about it...
Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock is a revolutionary masterpiece new to the beer world. Beer and chocolate have been combined to form a unique brew that is perfect for special occasions and is launching just in time for the 2004/2005 Holiday season. Made with an exclusive blend of Scharffen Berger chocolate, this dark beer has a big, malty character with a complex full-body taste and velvety finish. Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock uses the world’s finest ingredients, including cocoa beans from Ghana, which enhance its aroma and flavor. A hint of vanilla was also added to help meld the symphony of flavors.
This unique, new brew has already received seven awards internationally to date, including the Gold Medal at the Australia International Beer Awards in Melbourne; the Gold Medal at the Brewing Industry International Awards in London; Monde Selection’s Gold Medal; the Gold Medal from the North American Brewers Association; a Silver Medal at the World Beer Cup in San Diego; and a Regional Championship title at the United States Beer Tasting Championships.
Personally, I LOVED IT!:partay:

I'm not a big fan of the fruity beers.
I tend to like the dark side - porters, stouts. The three best I ever brewed were a Dunkelweizen, a porter and an oatmeal stout.
During the warm weather I enjoy a good hefeweizen.

Sarah -The last time I went to the ACA in Cincy with YAP, we found a german style Hofbrau house microbrewer. I believe they were across the river in Kentucky. We went there after touring the Newport Aquarium. They had freshly made hefewiezen and dunkelweizen. It was great. I hope to check them out again this year at the convention.

The SA Summer Ale has been my kick lately especially coming from the tap.
There a local brewery in the Albany area (Albany Pump Station) that puts out some awesome brews. Their Kick-Ass Brown Ale has won numerous compitions throughout the world and their Poor Soldier Porter is to die for.
Another local brewery in the Lake Geroge region, Adirondack Pub and Brewery puts out a really nice stout called Snow Trout Stout. I'm not a big stout fan but I can put plenty of these away.
There was a smaller brewery in Saratoga that went out of business years ago that had the best flavored beer I've ever had, Raspberry Wheat. Oh my, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. Man I miss that place.
My alltime favorite seasonal beer by your typical company has to be Sam Adams Oktoberfest.

While I don't pretend to know much about beer, (having had very limited exposure to it), I have some opinions on the subject. First of all Sam Adams Boston Lager is acceptable in a restaurant if Yuengling Porter (or Black & Tan or Lager) is not offered there. Secondly wheat is a cereal and should be served with sugar and milk for breakfast. Third fruits are a healthy snack in your kids lunch bag and have no business in the brewing process. Lastly lime wedges were originally placed in the tops of opened Corona beer bottles to prevent flies and bees from entering while no one was watching.
All this typing has made me thirsty. I'll just grab my trusty Fish-Bone bottle opener and pop a frosty Yuengling Traditional Lager and settle in to watch some college football on ESPN.
Oh yeah I almost forgot the bacon thing..................... The thing is ..................everything .................. is better with bacon!

Samuel Adams Utopias, which went on sale in February 2002, was claimed to be the strongest commercial beer in the world, at 27% alcohol by volume. The beer was stronger than Millennium, a single release brew made by Sam Adams in 1999, at 21% alcohol.
Utopias are made with caramel, Vienna, Moravian and Bavarian smoked malts, and all four varieties of noble hops: Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, Tettnanger, Spalter, and Saaz hops. The beer is aged in scotch, cognac and port barrels for the better part of a year. It is described as having a "distinctive smell of cinnamon and vanilla with subtle hints of floral, citrus and pine."[citation needed]
The beer was packaged in a copper-finished kettle designed to resemble those used in the brewing process. 8,000 twenty-four-ounce bottles of Utopias were produced in all, with a suggested price of US$100 a bottle. The beer is considered by some to be more comparable to brandy or sherry than to other beers.
Because of legal restrictions, Samuel Adams Utopias are not offered in the states of Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Washington, or West Virginia.[9]
Utopias are still being made and have been released in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2007. Samuel Adams produced just 12,000 bottles for the 2007 holiday season,[10][11] and plans to release the next Utopias in November, 2009 at a suggested retail price of $120.
A little more and updated info...
The limited-edition 2009 batch of Samuel Adams Utopias will be bottled in numbered, ceramic brew kettle shaped decanters. The small batch release comes from just 53 barrels all brewed, blended and aged at the Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston. The exclusive, limited distribution brew will be available at select specialty beer and liquor stores starting in November for a suggested retail price of $150.00 per bottle. For more information, visit www.samueladams.com.
My question is...
Would you?
At $150 per bottle beer or not a beer it is expensive.
I read that in The City bars were selling shots of this for $12 a pop.
It is served room temperature and is non-carbonated.

Being from Colorado or at least mostly... I have to give a shout out for my favorite "flavored" beer Tommy Knocker Maple Nut Brown (http://tommyknocker.com/ourBeer.html#mapleNut)
Maple Nut Brown Ale - 4.5% ABV
A delicate amount of Maple syrup is added to each barrel of our award winning Maple Nut Brown Ale to impart roasted sweetness. This addition balances the nut flavor produced by chocolate malts used in the brewhouse, producing a drinkable dark amber ale with a relatively low alcohol content. 1996 Great American Beer Festival Bronze Medal. 1999 NABA Silver Medal. 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Medal. 2002 GABF Bronze Medal. 2002 NABA Silver Medal. 2003 GABF Bronze Medal. 2006 GABF Bronze Medal.
But in my days of doing home brew... I used to make a couple of Whiskey or Scotch Ales! Used chared oak chips that were aged in a bottle or Makers or Bush Mills and then dump the whole bottle to the secondary OMG I'm getting drunk just thinking about it!

I love beer, the history, the art, the skill. It is an amazing thing. Have you had Flag Porter? A ship sank in the english channel in the 1700's, they found a bottle of beer, the yeast was still alive! They set up an ICU unit to actually bring the yeast to a point where the beer could be recreated .

Ahh- a bloody beer- lovely! Although having a snit alongside my bloody mary is my preferred way of mixing the two.
The Noble Pils is hardly an IPA, but whoever said that to you didn't know what they were talking about. There is a very long distance between ale and pilsner styles of beer. New world pilsners leave a lot to be desired (think Budweiser, Molson) compared to their European ancestors. With the Noble Pils, Sam Adams has gone back to the slightly hoppy/malty balance in a light, more highly carbonated style. It'll be a great pairing with fried foods, salads, and other lighter fare.
I bought a 6er and am still pleased after the 3rd bottle. I've got my trusty eye-bulging IPA next to it in the fridge if I get thirsty for something heavier though!

A River Horse Double Wit (Brewed in NJ :beerchug:) followed by a Sam Adams LongShot. I read up on LongShot and it seems to be a homebrew contest that SA ran. From what I read there seems to be several winners. The six that I bought (only had one) was a very thick rich brew with hints of, believe it or not, molasses and vanilla.
SA Oktoberfest is my favorite as well.

I went to the Saratoga Brewfest this past weekend and had a really good time with a couple friends. It was my 1st brewfest and it went really smoothly. Everyone was given 12 tickets and a 5 oz glass to taste the different beers that were there. Let's put it this way, I had 10 tickets left over and probably had 20 different types of beer. Not too many of brewers were taking the tickets. Over all most of the beers were really good from over 40 brewers that were there. all had at least 2 different types of brews on hand. I had a couple that were really bad and forced them down, one in particular comes to mind; Yeti, a really thick dark stout, yuck. Some of the smaller micro brews had the best beer. Ithaca brewery had a really good ale and this company out of Colorado (Oskar I think) had probably the best Pale Ales I had all day and it came out of a can. Butternuts' Pork Slap was pretty good as well. I'm definately up for another in the future.

I'm a big fan of their Ubu Ale. This is top notch and is around 7% ABV. I even came home with a growler of it. Their 46er Pale Ale is pretty good as well along with their High Peaks Hefeweizen which is their seasonal now. You should be able to pick some up at a beverage center and other in upstate NY should be able to get it at any grocery store (Hannaford, Price Chopper, etc.) Give it shot, it's mighty tasty.

Next stop was http://www.slyfoxbeer.com/ We tried several (too many to remember) beers- but it was most interesting to experience the change in mouth feel between a tapped and hand-pumped brew. Out of the bunch, the Sorachi Ace was the most memorable for the sourness of the hops, but the Saison Vos is worth drinking too.

I had a couple drafts of Alaskan Amber Ale last night with dinner. Not too bad of a beer but definately others out there that I'd drink first.

Men's Room Red, Scuttlebutt Blond and Mirror Pond Ale. All were pretty good but I especially liked the Scuttlebutt Blonde.

I have fallen in love with River Horse!
For an unfiltered double IPA Hop-A-Lot-Amus gets a B+.
Tripel Horse is a Belgian Style Ale. I really like Belgian Style Ales, and sip after sip this one gets better and better.

Haven't seen that one offered in the south. There are a few local breweries in the Atlanta area that I'm a huge fan of......well, i'm a huge fan of :beerchug: in general. I can drink most anything except for the wheat beers. I just don't have a taste for them. I dont know if these have made it up north but if you are down this way these 2 put out some tasty suds:

Bill, I saw this a couple weeks ago as well. This thing is awesome. Not only can they sell more beer now but there is less head on it and people who buy it get a consistent cup full each time.

lol- Yeah, that's not one of Maine's finest brews. I prefer the Allagash, Penobscot, and Carrabassett breweries. Here's the latest Maine loveliness: Allagash Tripel ale.

While the Craft Brewery that I asked to sponsor us at the ACA turned me down, their reasoning was insane, there was a silver lining...
Rick and Pattie (fishferfun) brought some home brew with them that was, IMO, the best I have ever had. What ever was in the third bottle that Pattie brought down was GOLD.
Thanks Rick and Pattie.

My good friend Vasyl brought over some imported German beer - Erdinger Oktoberfest. A wheat beer hefe-weizen with yeast still in the bottle. One of the best tasting beers I have had in years. If you ever run across some give it a try. Very smooth, be careful when pouring, produces a great head with lots of foam.
