Yesterday when I got home I checked up on my yellow lab who's holding. She's been at this since the 29th of Dec. Well, the lil ones are slipping in and out of her mouth! What's funny is when she gets close to the tank side, I can see her mouth full of eyes! It's too funny.

This is our first fry... I'm so excited!:runnningaround:

Very cute mama isn't she? LOL!

My hubby said she's gonna just carry them until they go to college. They try to get out and she slurps them up like spaghetti! HAHAHA! To great...

We have babies! Sometime during the night, 'mom' spit her babies out. For her size, I'm shocked to know she carried as many as she did in her mouth for so long. They're about 3/16ths long! Can you imagine!! So precious!

We'll have pics in a little bit. They're so cute!

Well, I'm a gramma to a new set of yellow labs! :becky:

Yaaaay! Mom is great, the babies are great and we're very happy :beerchug:

http://forums.eastcoastcichlids.org/picture.php?albumid=52&pictureid=375There's something really wonderful about preserving beautiful things. We've taken these guys out of their natural environment and brought them into our homes. We are obligated to love them, nurture them and ensure that they are always available. I was ill when I read where Lake Victoria has taken a huge hit to the species of cichlids because of human error. Even worse is the idea that many are extinct or on the verge of extinction because of over fishing. Just disturbing.

So, we're doing our part. Our local fish store has said that because we're so careful to ensure no interbreeding, they'll take our babies and sell them. I said, "What if I get attached!" LOL!

I'm putting up pictures right now of our babies...they're so awesome!

I hope we have the opportunity to experience this again. It's been amazing.

are they in a separate tank if not more likely they will become feeders.

Yes, the babies are in a 20 gal by themselves and the mom is in a 55 by herself. The rest of our fish are in another 55 gal hanging out and being fish...lol.

We do have some Copadichromis that are trying to do their dance right now though and it's just not good timing! I don't have anywhere to house any new mom's for the time being!

Regardless, I've had fun!:becky:

I almost cried when I saw the babies this morning. I know, call me a sap...it's okay :neener:

I'm just leaving her out long enough to recouperate after going so long without food. I don't want to put her under anymore stress than she's been through for so long. We're going to put her back in the main tank in about a week. That way, she can get her strength about her again... :becky:

Oh, I'm so happy to have these new babies!! They're the best! I watched them eat today and it was too funny. They're almost too small to eat! :odd043:

:beerchug: A toast to a great mom, great hobby and great people that have been so helpful to us so far!! Thank you!!

Congrats and be careful not to overfeed the little. Lots of little feedings has always worked for me.

Oh ya'll, I am already asking where will I put all these fry!!

We have 38 Kenyi's, 46 yellow labs, 10 copadichromis (tri color hap), 15 rusty's and we have 2 mom's still to go!

1 Blue Cobalt (red zebra cobalt)
1 melanochromis...

Where!! Great day!!

LOL!
Anyone up for free fish? Swap someone a dozen of mine for 1 male and 3 female blueberries? <giggles>

Just thought I'd update this thread. I'll get pics in here, no doubt :becky:
