comp questions

Around when do alto comps start pairing off and showing signs of dominance? What would a dominant display look like? I have some with really pronounced striping when they are being aggresive(kinda), and one that shows some really nice dots.

Back in july I bought a group of 5 red fin comps. I cant tell the ratio. I think its 3m/2f, but could be 2/3.

Over the past few days one of the 2 biggest has been hanging around the rock pile in the tank with one of the smaller fish(most likely a female).Hes been a lot darker than usual. He is around 2.25 inches and showing some nice blueish tint in his lips and nice dots as well. Barely any striping though.

Can someone chime in and tell me what they think. :ty:

Put a big conche shell or breeding cave in the tank and see what happens. The male will try and push the female into the cave with his mouth or fan his body at her. He may even shake his head at her.

I agree...try and get a shell that is large enough for the female to enter, but just a tad small for the male to get into.

Thats EXACTLY what hes been doing....Its no as much of a shake like my mbuna do. Its more subtle than that...alot of little fin fanning.

Can someone show me a setup where they spawned comps in?

Also, does anyone know the man thats ALWAYS at the back of the auction selling his wifes homemade caves? I believe his name is steve. I was wondering if he had a website because ive seen him selling comp/calvus caves.

My setup for spawing a pair of comps was simply a conch shell in a 10g tank. No other decor.
They spawned for me several times wth no problems.
