Hi guys ,just wondering if haps are hardier than peacocks in general. It seems to me that peacocks are more fragile, what do you guys say?

In general, yes.
There are exceptions though, with such haps as Lethrinops sp., Utaka species (some Copadichromis species, some Mchenga species, and some Nyassachromis sp.), etc.

Your right ED. But generally when hap's and peacock's are put in the same tank bye bye peacock's. Generally

I would have to say that my Aul. sp. Lwanda and Cop. geertsi Gome are about the same - but they aren't near as tough as many of the other 'Haps'.
Generally speaking, I would also agree that haps are hardier.

I would generally agree with this, however I have handled a few threads on other sites where the peacocks are the aggressive fish in the tank.
This is no not the 'norm' though.
Right now I have a nice group of wild A.Baenschi peacocks in a 135 gallon tank (intial stocking) with 3 Mbenji thick lip,6 Psuedo Flavis, trio of Red Top Nakantenga Zebra's,6 N.linni and 10 Psuedo Elongatus "mphanga rocks" and they are holding up well and breeding like rabbits.
If you WANT to add some mbuna I would add them in last (and smaller) and only in pairs or trio's,,,,and be prepaired to move them if it doesn't work.
Also, while the tank is cycling its always a good idea to keep the fish load light,,,so its always best to start off with fish that will not destroy each other because there is not enough fish in the tank to disperse the aggression.
Cheers,Larry

I've had F1 and wild Red Empress take over the tank. At 3 inches the are mellow. As soon as the males hit 4.5 inches they got mean As they approch over 5 inches they took over the 100 gal. I had it all mbuna Except the red empress. They were the red hap borzulu, chinnyankwiese locality

I keep a 180 with haps, peacocks, mbuna and some tangs with no issues whatsoever. Some of the peacock males can be just as nasty and hold thier own.

The bigger the tank Mike the more you can get away with .

In my 265 I have Haps mixed with a few male peacocks and the males hold their own. No issues at all with any of them.

Think about Ed they all live in the same lake. The big tanks are so forgiving when it comes to diversity. I would never put mollies with africans in less than a 55 gal. It the big tanks you can put sword tails, limia, ranbow fish. with no problem. I have herd of people putting tinfoin barbs, tiger barbs, with no problems in 125 and up. I they can live with mbuna I cant see more docile SSp of Malawi cichlids
