I always use Fluval Can. Filters I have many of them, but on one trip to my LFS the guy talked me in to trying a C220 M/L filter I bought two The main selling point was that they come with all the media including bio balls.
IMO they are the biggest pieces of garbage on the market first of all the GPH they claim to turn over is a total lie I even tried running it with no media once just to see if that made a difference it did not. I only run bio media with the foam pads no Carbon and no polishing pads. I generally do maintenance every 3 months cleaning the impellers rinsing out the foam pads and give the bio balls a dunk in a bucket of aged tank water to all my Can. filters.
Never have problems with my Fluvals but one of the C220's just stopped running so I cleaned it tested the impeller and it still wouldn't start repeated these steps 4 times and nothing.
This filter is under 1 year old.
I have a fluval 403 that could pump out my septic tank and still keep running and it is old and well used.
