What do you folks think?
Is it a gimick?
How is it different from the live bhrine the pet shops sell?
What could keep these guys alive in a jar? I guess suspended animation??
THen when it's opened keep refrigerated - shelf life of 6 weeks like this??
What kind of fluid is this that can keep them alive so long?

I have used it once in Adams Pet Safari. They are not alive. We kept it in the fridge when not in use and fed it to all sorts of fish fry.

THe write up give the impression that they are alive. Hence the word "instant". I get the impression that this product is being marketed to replace the hatching of bhrine shrimp - since we all know what kind of process that can be. They actually mention this in the write up. Also - this rpoduct would be no different than frozen BBS. But something is telling me this jar is supposed to contain BBS that will spring to life when opened.
Anybody else heard of this product or tried it?

I did have a small jar of it last year but did not use it as it was past the expiration date.
They claim the jar's contents are sterile. So, obviously, they are processed in such a way as to keep the dead BBS free of bacterial contamination.
They don't tell us how this is done. They may add an antibiotic, although the inofrmation states there are no additives. Sterlization can also be brought about by heat as one does when canning foodstuffs or by irradiation. I highly doubt the latter.
There are many bottled products out there for the use in maintaining reef tanks. But rotifers, copepods, etc are usually kept in the store refrigerator.
I'll stick with frozen BBS, daphnia, rotifers and cyclops along with golden pearls for my fry.

Notice how they refrain from saying "hatches into live BBS" in the product description.
Honestly, that stuff looks and sounds exactly like decapsulated brine shrimp cysts...
"The product consists entirely of sterile newborn nauplii in a water solution. Nothing else has been added, no preservatives or colorants. The product is natural, as if you would have hatched the Brine Shrimp yourself. "
Sounds like a darn gimmick! And I am convinced that this is nothing more than BBS mixed in with some preservative. In essence frozen BBS minus the preservative and minus the freeze! LOL

Well, is canned corn a gimmick? Have you ever drank Ultra-sterilized milk that doesn't need refrigeration until after you open it? I would guess that if we examined these buggers under a microscope, we'd see evidence of whatever sterilization method that was used.
IMHO- it doesn't make it more or less of a gimmick than frozen bbs. Except I hate thawing that stuff out and trying to distribute it among my tanks. (I use frozen mysis- if they sold that in a jar, I'd probably use more of it.)

Good point.
However....for the same reason I don't fill my household refrigerator with frozen creatures is the same reasons I would not put this "jar" of creatures in it as well. Reason 1 - my wife aint into fish. reason 2 Would not want my children having an accident with it. 3 I personally don't like creatures in near my food.
So what I get from the product is no new thing.
Creatures are dead and still need to go in the fridge. I would much rather hatch out live BBS inside my tank stand. Away from the kitchen and fridge.

Hey Tito - don't you have dead chicken, meats and whatever are inside hot dogs in your fridge? :becky:

LOL - Nice Tom,
However - I'm sure these "food" products for a fish have as label that says - "not for human consumption". That's gotta be there for a reason.
We don't eat hot dogs too often. Maybe six times a year and with caution.

I won a couple jars of it at 1 of our south jersey guppy group meeting raffles. I tried it out on the fish a few times. They did go for it, it looks like dead brine shrimp to me with color enhancers because it is very bright orange. I'd use it again for free but wouldn't pay 10 bucks for a jar which is about the going price.
I bought 2 brine shrimp hatchers from jehmco a couple years ago and with proper measurements for hatching the shrimp and a really good clamp-on led light I bought at target, I get great results daily with the hatches.
I just bought some 90% hatch rate eggs to try out in there.
