For a living that is.
I work for Martha Stewart's favorite company, ImClone Systems, as a cell culture biologist in our Clinical Manufacturing group. I've been there for 15 years working with several monoclonal antibodies used for cancer treatment. Our best known and only approved drug is Erbitux which is used for colorectal and head/neck cancers.
We were recently bought out(ka-ching!) by Eli Lilly and are now a wholely owned subsidiary of Lilly.

I have a BS in Biology.
Worked as a mechanical inspector for 1.5 yrs after college. (My father owned a Machine shop, and I worked there as a young person. He started in our basement.)
Moved into Toolmaking for 14 yrs. Primarily did the finish grinding of the tools made by the toolmakers on a universal grinder-ID and OD, with some surface grinding. (Thoughts of taking over my fathers business led to that switch. My Apprenticeship showed me I wasn't cut out to own my own business.)
Now working in a wire drawing company in charge of the Electroplating department. I also manage the hazardous waste and waste treatment systems.

Please forgive the dated site we are working on having it redone
I am a MOCVD tech., Quality Control manager for Veeco Corp. I program both a CNC CMM machine and a Nykon optical laser scanner. We manufacture multi million dollar systems which grow wafers. Most of the wafers grown produce HBLED's (High Britness Light Emiting Diodes), while other MOCVD systems produce Solar cells, lasers, and amplifiers used to make chips. Your cell phones most likely have one that was produced by a Veeco system.

I was a Paid Firefighter for 15 years then got into computers and now work for one of the big 5 Accounting firms Grant Thornton in Philadelphia handling all the daily break/fixes & Network administration. I love tearing computers apart and putting them back together!
I am also a Basketball referee for over 20 years as long as the knees hold out. I usually ref all year long and do around 250 games. Looks like as long as I give up playing basketball in three leagues I can ref a lot longer. This is my busiest time from thankgiving on for 11 weeks where I will do 18-20 games a week!
My fishroom will take a back seat other than feeding and water changes til BBall season is over. Next Fall I go back to reffing football!

Cichlid DEPOT ?
If there was only such a place.
Maxwell (Alan) was in Germany recently, as was a friend of mine that I work with. Both told me that the "Large Box Hardware" store in Germany has fish. The person that I work with (Hi Meredith, she tells me she looks at the site) gave me a sales flier that had all fish supplies in it...really cool.
Cichlid DEPOT ?
Cichlid Depot?
How can you be a depot with 2 tanks working on more? 2 tanks make it a display tank with a spare for troubles, and you talk about my tanks.

I do R&D along with applications for a company that manufactures MRI scanners. The company developed the only weight bearing UPRIGHT(TM) MRI.
The man I work for was the first person to produce a human image and prove that cancer can be differentiated from healthy normal tissue using NMR and spectroscopy in a giant magnet.
Great job, every day is a new adventure. I'm always learning.

:) sounds like a lot of propeller heads here--count me in too!
Greyd's job sounds like the most stress free HA!
VoodooGirl's post reminds me totally of my daughter--everything done for their reasons and their reasons only! :megacool:
I design conveyor systems, automated equipment & fluid handling systems for a plant that manufactures roughly 35% of all the IV bags made in the USA. Used to be Abbott Labs, now we're called Hospira. Abbott Labs kicked our entire division (15K people) out of the company because ours was the oldest & closest to retiring etc.....Lost our pension and most of our benefits....so the CEO of our 'former' company could make $40 million last year alone...and folks wonder why the economy is screwedup:upset:

I write software.. Financial stuff for the big banks to access the stock exchanges in the US and Canada.

My job is a bit less high tech. I clean fish tanks, feed fish, move fish and clean fish tanks. Then repeat. In my spare time I work on our website, haggle with vendors and search for places to advertise. Then I clean fish tanks.
Hubby leaves the dungeon and goes off to be a Shop Foreman/Equipment Suprevisor in the real world.

I work for a benefit outsourcing firm and I build the systems to support the benefits administration. Think those annoying phone systems where you can never talk to a live person, and also retirement websites, etc. We are having major layoffs and cannot hire new people onshore (offshore only, India and other places). I'm glad to have a job.

Well I see I never answered this question and thought perhaps I should since I've pretty much spent my whole life in the business.....
I grew up working for my father's title insurance company. If you have ever bought a home, you know me....I'm the person that runs the settlement. I do the numbers, explain the papers, take and then give out the money and get the documents recorded. A few years ago I went to work for a commercial title company (it turned out to be a good move with the economy). Residential real estate sales have greatly declined and many Settlement Officers have been laid off. Working as a Commercial Closer, my job is pretty secure. We are still very busy. I like what I do but it's very stressful at times. :glasses:
