I bought fish labeled j. transcriptus(gombe) at the ecc auction but I am reading that they are actually j. malieri(gombe) and there is no j. trans gombe...what should I label them?

Ad Konings moved them from transcriptus to marleiri.
There is an excellent article in the last Cichlid News on Julidochromis making a very good case that they, and a number of other julies need new classes. I would refer to them as Julidochromis sp. "Gombe".
Thanks,
Daniel

Is Koning's calling Julie Transcriptus a " Dwarf " Maleri ? Maleri are usually twice the size of Transcriptus. How can both species claimed to be the same ?

Julidochromis marlieri "Gombe" is how he has them listed. Formerly known as transcriptus. He wants to call any juli's with cheek markings marlieri and those without cheek markings transcriptus.

they are as mean as maleri but the size of transcriptus. Konings may want to change the name but I'll wait for the actual taxonomic body to give the final decree. Until then, like Artie said, enjoy the fish. :)

I've had a colony of the transcriptus for years. One of the most peaceful of the julies next to the regani. No matter what they classify them as, a beautiful fish.
