This fall I drove over 500 miles to get a group of these from Gomez. Here is the dominate male. Now that he is acclimated to his new home, he's breeding and showing color consistently. My picture taking does him no justice.

Well worth the trip! Pretty good shots too, I've found them to be one of the harder types to get good shots of. Not sure if its because of how dark they are or what? I broke my own rules :) and ordered this group of Mphanga Rocks off aqua-bid. They're coloring up pretty nicely now. Couple of the males:

This group from Lundu has been very slow to settle in but have started breeding pretty well--three femmes holding!

NO reason to worry! its a cichness

I read that keeping fish can add years to your life---so figure it's just investing in the future! (better than the stock market these days too!)

Nice fish Nick!...I too noticed that mine took awhile to settle in. I almost moved them to a tank of their own.

I've been keeping those for several years now. Right now I have a group of at least 7 and they spawn regularly. The amount of fry they produce are very small in most cases, that's why you don't see them for sale often.
The males are absolutely magnificent when fully fired up. Sub-dominant males don't show color and often look like females as a type of camouflage.
They are one of my absolute favorite species.
