How do you guys feel about Hybrids? Specifically flowerhorns? Seems like purist tend to hate hybrids but in the recent few months alot of cichlid keepers have been keeping flowerhorns. Just want your take on the subject.

I don't mind then that much. Now Fishwife is a different story. She loves her blood Parrots! Me I just like the Firefish Peacocks. Althought there are a lot of nice looking Flowerhorns out there and I wouldn't mind owning one nice large male.

The hybridization of one species with another species has been going on for thousands of years without mans help.
BUT in my opinion we shouldn't be messing with Mother nature.
For scientific purposes I can see a reason, but those fish should be euthenized once the experiemnt is done.
Call me a purist but with some common sense,

I'm very opposed to big mbuna mixed tank's, to see 10 or more species with males and females makes me want to puke , it's sodom and gomorra and no matter how you say to yourself " I saw all the breeding and the right females and males mated " is deluded and that's why they're hard to sell. How come no one claim's to have an all male mbuna tank. Now that guy should get some kudo's. As far as hopped up red peacock's and flowerhorn's I love um as long as they breed true. And I like firefish too as ornamental until they start breeding true.

I see nothing wrong with them as long as you either keep them or give them away as hybrids. The only time I have a poblem is when they are trying to be passed as real fish or MIXED AFRICANS. As far as killing them I am not down with that. If 2 people of different races have a baby we don't kull them do we.
It seems that the people who keep them (hybrids) and breed them either accidentally or on purpose are the ones who say it's OK. The problem with those who say it's OK if you just give them away, even if you tell the people that the fish is a hybrids is, the people you give them to and don't care it's a hybrid probably are not people who understand the ramifications of even giving these fish to the next person who probably won't tell the next the fish is a hybrid and should not be bred. Now we have fish given to your LFS to sell, abd that is like AP said, you have those big tanks that in the LFS's that say mixed Africans. No one knows what the H*## they really are and then the person who buys them, breeds them, etc, etc, etc.
Yes, we already have hybrids out there. I think, we don't need to introduce more.
I accidentally in my early days had a mix of Mbunas that bred, they all became fish food. If you consider that killing so be it, it happens in nature and in our aquariums every day, just my opinion.

I like the idea that I'm seeing in my tank the best of what I could see in the lake, so not a fan of hybrids. My Synos take care of most of them for me, LOL! But hump-headed fish are not attractive to me, so Flowerhorns are are double yuck IMO.

HYBRID BREEDERS PRODUCE GOOD FEEDERS. Just ask any fish. I've always said, "Hybrids, keep em but don't breed em".

To each, his/her own. I personally don't see the appeal. Yeah, they could be really nice looking--but that's not what I'm in this hobby for exclusively. Gotta agree with AP--sometimes ya just have to smile and walk away when somebody starts that drivel.

After a cross back to 100% lab you can just barely tell they're not right--in fact they have some really nice color........bet I could make a buck at the LFS! --NOT gonna happen, these guys will never leave this tank alive.

Bravo to everyone here. The absolute worst thing about hybrids are the people that keep them and then sell or give them away to other people.

Wow, a candidate to be partners with Vinman.
Ask him if he wants a few Red Anni in a trade.
While I have the floor here I want to give a great big Shout-Out to Spy from that other site. Hey Herb, are you still telling people to stay away from here?:jump::jump::jump:

I think I can best answer this question....Hybrids are very pretty and special. Take my lovely Blood Parrots....they are so beautiful. I only like the orange/coral color ones and the white ones with red cheeks (so pretty). I'm not a fan of injecting them with color like green or purple or blue - I don't want to hurt them when they are perfect just as they are.
I'm also very unhappy that the owners of this site (my husband included) won't allow Blood Parrots in the auction that I have to go to and work at on April 4th (the day after my birthday). I guess I'll just have to buy up all the "Angelfish". :fish:

You can have all the Blood Parrots you want! As long as you don't breed them. If you do breed them then my fish will be like Bill's Horei! :1devil:

Flush them all!!!!
Hybrids, I've got several tanks with nothing but. Some of them look so close to the real Mc Coy that I get a decent $$$ for them and nobody knows.

I'm gonna breed some pot-smoking Red Anni with my wild Tropheus Mpulungu and label the offspring "pseodotropheus mop".
Can I donate them to the site?

I personally do not care what people want to keep in their tanks.
If they sell them at auctions or give them away, they should be labled as such.
I have seen some very nice looking OB Peacocks, have had them in all male show tanks. Kept them until they either died or got some type of illness I had to cull them.
Never once have I culled a fish because it was "hybrid". I have been on other forums alike where members say culling hybrid fish is the ONLY option????
If you like 'em,,,nothing else matters.

I also prefer the natural fish. Not berating those who like the flower horns etc, but just not my personal choice. :bandit:
